India

In my country most of us rely upon public transportation for commuting to different places. I used public transportation till 21 until recently I bought myself a new Motor bike 4 months ago after I joined corporate. During my school and college days, I used to rely upon the local Bus and train service everyday ane even today I used to take Public transportation for travelling long distances. Railways is the most popular mode of transportation in our country and our country Railways ranks Number.1 in carrrying the number of passengers and it is the Largest Employer in the World. Road transportation by bus is another popular means of transportation in my country and road transportation caters to the need of small villages and towns. Not many of us in my country can affford for a Car. So friends, do you still use Public transportation? Please share your informtation. Have a great day. Cheers:-)

I take public transportation almost everyday, even for just a short distance coz it is really cheap. Public transport is also one of the most practical ways of transportation. But I also want to purchase a motor bike for my personal use. I'm thinking, it is very risky in my area, very dangerous.

Public transportation is a lot cheaper. Most of the accidents we see right now involve motorcycles. I think it is not a wise decision to buy one. But it will all be up to you.

well! yeah I use public transport a lot.dont have a car yet, dont plan to buy it any sooner :).also i think that even if ppl have their own means of transport, many of them should use it non-the less. There are many benifits. For starters: 1. Environment will get some respite 2. Fuel Prices will come down 3. Fewer traffic jams 4. No parking hassels and you save parking money too 5. People will shun false sense of pride about showing off their vehicles on the road when everyone travels by public transport. 6. I am sure, it will serve the same purpose in community as a uniform serves in school7. Public transports are cheaper and need no maintainance like they need for cars. some of the countries have wonderful public transport...i only wish certain other countries acquire it too.But what i wish most is that everyone uses them :)

Oh that's sad and i feel sorry for your accident. Yes, in my country, there are special seats being allocated for the physically challenged people in transports and one can use them conveniently.

Yes, I do. I prefer public transportations to personal vehicles. There are some several reasons for it. First, owning personal vehicles means another expenses. Fuels, care fees, and also taxes should be considered even before we buy one. Second, after arriving in our destination, finding place to park your own vehicle will cost you money, and time. I know there are a lot of free parking spaces. Third, is about the risk. Imagine if you crash another's car or accidentaly crash tree. It will cost you more, for medical expense or another insurance expense.

Charlies, you seem to be a practical person. Yes, one of the main problems with private vehicle is the Parking problem. In my city, the number of cars and bikes are increasing in 100's everyday and due to it, there is a severe traffic congestion being faced in our locality. Moreover the parking fees add to our woes.

ya i had been using the public transport till almost a year ago when i shifted to a society which was walking distance from my work place. even now once in a while i do use public transport.its both cheapest and sometimes safe too.it can be saviour during traffic hours.in fact the growing traffic due to increased number of private vehicles can be curbed with just use of public transport system which should be strengthened by the govt.

You said it. Yes, the public transportation must be modernised inorder to attract more commuters and moreover during peak hours, the Railway service is a boon for many as you can easily escape from the traffic hurls. Thanks for posting this discussion and have a great day. Happy Mylotting. Cheers:-)

My wprk place is in the downtown business core of the city and I live in one of the suburbs. That's quite a distance. I used to go to work driving my car before. But, these days, with the pas prices going higher and higher, I am usining the public transport systems, buses, trains. That's much more economical than driving own car. Have a nice day !

Yes you are correct. Using public transportation is one of the cheapest and economical modes and at the time of economic recession, it is absoutely necessary that we resort to some cost saving modes. Have a great day.

I still use public transportation to get me to where I want. I think it's a necessity since not everyone in my country can afford to buy a vehicle and with the economic crisis and predictable oil price hike, using public transportation saves you a lot of money for the gas and not be tired driving because of being stuck in traffic for so long. The only thing I don't like using public transpo. is when your standing and its so crowded and your stuck in traffic...

Ha ha ha. well said Yugasini. Not only our railways but also the Blue and yellow liner bus services in NewDelhi+ the Delhi metro construction sites. They seem to have taken pledge to reduce Delhi population by 1 or 2%. The suburban railways in Mumbai and Chennai are quite safe and efficient too.

Walking is a good exercise but if the destination is more than 4 km strech, then its better we take some mode of transportation.

I love to use public transportation. I am worry-free when i use them. I ride, I pay, and arrive at the place I intend to go. I hate to drive because its stressful. I have to check the engine etc. before i leave, i have to gas up, I have to go through heavy traffic, i will worry about where to park when its full. But if there is someone who will drive for me, well, why not?

I don't use Public Transports. I don't like them much. Because of many following reasons. At first, I don't take the initiative to go to somewhere I want to go. For example, when I need to go some places don't have public transports, I have to go on foot. It takes a lot of time to go there and to take trip. There are many trips to take in and out. If with the person don't know which place the bus or railway goes, he/she still lose his/her way. Second, I sick when I go on the bus or train. I can go by plane.

Yes I do take public transport. I guess it is pretty much easy especially if you are not with somebody to be with you. I can move around easily. But then, if I do have my own car, I would love to go around and move from one place to the other more often.
