How many parents allow their kids to cook unassisted, but not leave them alone of course? My daughter is 4 years old and she is always helping me in the kitchen. I taught her to be careful and told her that the stove is hot. She makes her own scrambled eggs from start to finish. I think its a start at learning responsability and a begining to being a good cook.

I think teaching your kids to cook is great ! when my nephew was little, he was my big helper in the kitchen and he loved it.. I have a cousin who taught her daghter at a young age to cook and she is a teenager now and is a great cook and makes the best pies at our family reunions. :)

Thats exactly what I'm talking about! See how it all pays off in the end. My mom taught me when I was young and I love to cook now. I'm sure my daughter will turn out the same way.

I think it's a great thing that you're teaching your daughter of how to behave around the kitchen and start doing her own things already. When I have kids of my own, I'll be for sure doing the same. Unfortunetly, I believe that the majority of this current generation parents don't have the time or don't seek to have the time to give valuable education to their kids in a fashion such as this one, you know.

You are right. Most people think you only have to teach you kids about book smarts, but you have to teach them life lesons as well. As my daughter learns her ABCs, she is also learning how to cook.

I think having kids help in the kitchen is a great idea. Maybe not with sharp knives or with the stove or oven but they can stir things and pull the leaves off of herbs, tear lettuce for salads, as soon as they are tall enough to stand on a step or chair and see over the counter. It helps them to learn how to cook so they won't be lost in the kitchen when they get older and it's a good time for the kids and parents to bond.
