How does the way a religion is introduced to you affect how much you believe it?

Three main ways I can think of at this time are starting with a religion through birth, discovering one yourself, and discovering one through a friend. I would think that those that you are introduced to at birth tend to stick around longer, and raise fewer doubts about the religion. However, what's the main difference between discovering a religion yourself and being introduced to it by a friend? Is it better to find a religion yourself or to be introduced to it? My opinion - I think that the strongest faith would most likely come from being born into that belief, however, once introduced to other religions, that faith may waver... Out of the second two ways I think that discovering a religion yourself would be more powerful because it is entirely YOUR choice to join said religion, you aren't been pressured into it... Not that I'm saying that all friends would pressure you into it... So what's your opinion? :)

I was raised in a simi-christian home. My parents aren't christian but believe in christianity. I felt from an early age that somethings weren't right about it - or didn't sit well with me. I struggled with it believing I would go to hell for disagreeing. But on my own (with Sylvia Brownes help actually - and my husbands openmindedness without a religon for himself) I found my way to a pagan, gnostic, wiccan way of life. There are certain discripancies in Christianity that bothers me to this day. Although I love Jesus and celebrate Christmas and most christian holidays. But that's what I love about being wiccan. It's the freedom to do so. I believe that Jesus was a great teacher like many others. I love learning about different religons though still. I read a lot. I've learned a lot about Christianitys history and I wonder what some christians would think if they learned the same things as I did. I think you should find your own beliefs and what feels right to you. I don't think you should get into anything in this life because of your friends are in it/doing it. Unless of course it feels right to you. Being curious though is a lot different. Great things come from curiousity.
