How Long do you sleep?

India
September 23, 2009 11:33am CST
I have some of my friends who just sleeps for 4 to 5 hours a day and i really wonder how do they survive by having sleep for just 4 to 5 hours a day. Even during Sunday's, they sleep for not more than 5 hours. I need atleast 7 hours sound sleep a day to keep myself healthy and fit. Friends, how long do you sleep in a day and what is your sleep timings? My sleep time is between 11pm to 7Am.

Great that you got accustomed sleeping 5 to 6 hours a day but please do make sure that you get enough sleep in the weekend, my friend. Sometimes sleep related disorders affect people due to lack of sufficient sleep. Thanks for responding to my discussion and have a great day. Happy Mylotting. Cheers:-)

Only the first half an hour after I'd wake up but then I'd be cool for the rest of the day. I'm not like that anymore. Now when I sleep less than 5 hours, I feel sleepy too

Yes most of us sleep for atleast 7 to 8 hours a day which is absolutely vital fro proper growth. I have seen certain people who sleep for just around 5 to 4 hours a day and still remain active. During exam days i used to sleep for just 3 to 4 hours a day but its for a span of 1 week or maximum 10 days. Not more than that stipulated time period I can stay fit by sleeping just for 4 to 5 hours a day. Thanks for responding to my discussion and have a great day. Cheers

I work at night, so when I leave work its 6am. I get home, stay some time awake to be with my son and go to sleep around 7am. I sleep till 1 or 2 in the afternoon depending on how difficult my shift was. I stay awake during the afternoon and at 7pm when my son is asleep, I take sometime to relax with a small nap, wake up around 10 and get ready to go to work. If my routine is changed, I feel quite tired afterward, so in the weekends I make sure a recuperate everything that I have lost in sleeping hours. Happy Mylotting

Hi msfrancisco. Even I used to sleep in the public transports often and during my clollege days, I used to miss my destination due to falling asleep in the bus and one time i walked about 13kms to reach home since i had no money to come from the bus station where I got down since I missed my bus location due to sound sleep. Thanks for posting this discussion and have a great day. Happy Mylotting. Cheers.

Oh yes, I miss taking the public transport because there I'm able take a nap on the way to work. And it seems I had a body clock coz I wake up just about the time when I have to get off the train/bus. When I started driving this is one of the things I miss.

I normally sleep 8-10 hours a day, quite a sleepy head. I love to sleep. But when I get to work or go to school, I go to bed early, as much as possible, because I want to sleep for about 6-7 hours. In that way, I will not feel sleepy while at work or at school.

Hi, vinslounge I can sleep up to 6 hours, usually from 1am to 7am. When I do not have to work, I can sleep up to 8am only. I am actually a night person who has to get up early to get ready for work. In the morning, I am sometimes not very energetic, but at night, I am. There are times when I have to turn off the lights, even if I am not sleepy yet, and force myself to sleep because I know I have to get up early. Have a nice day!

I am a college student. And i have classes everyday. So i have to sleep well to keep my energy enough to listening classes. But to compare to my senior school life. I can sleep longer. I always sleep from 12 to 7 or 8 when there're classes. When no class exist the next day, i will sleep from 12 to 9 or 10 am. But no matter how long i sleep, i always feel a litter tired the next day, especially the noon. I always sleep for a while at noon. I know when i work i will have less time to sleep . But i think when you sleep less everyday, you will accustom to it. So you won't feel tired. Sometimes i feel a very strange phenomenon. That is when i sleep very long such as 11 hours or more. I will feel more tired than even. But when i sleep much less. I even feel more energy. Do you feel that? Maybe sleep too long isn't very good , either.

24 Sep 09
Yes sleeping long too is not a good sign for our body. The optimum sleeping time for a person is from 7 to 8 hours. A recent study says that our body burns more number of calories when we sleep and hence if we sleep longer, it results in the burning of more number of calories so that our body would get automatically tired and we feel lazy and deprived of energy and zeal. A body at the maximum must not take more than 9.5 hours of continuous sleep. If it is more than that specified time, then it means we have some internal sleep related problem

Nowadays I usually sleep 6 to 7 hours a day. Every night I don't go to bed until 1 a.m. I used to hear that an adult should sleep at least 8 hours a day. But recently another scientific research indicated that an adult should sleep not more than 7 hours a day. And a person who sleep more than 8 hours is more likely to die earlier than that who sleep 5 hours. I don't know which statement is more reasonable. I think it doesn't matter how long you sleep, so long as you have a regular sleep.

Yes there are too many theories regarsing sleep. But most of the studies prove that its vital that we sleep for atleast 6 hours a day inorder to manitain a good health. Peope who sleeps less than 4 hours a day are more prone to sleep related disorders. Thanks for posting to my discussion and have a freat day. Cheers:-)

I sleep 6-8 hours a night. The average sleep for adult is 7 to 9 hours a night while children is 8 to 10 hours a night. Sleeping not more than 6 hours a day, can lead to sleep deprivation. A Chronic sleep-restricted state can cause fatigue, daytime sleepiness, clumsiness and weight gain. And it also affect your brain function. Individual who slept 8 hours a night steadily increased their working memory efficiency on this task. But for those who slept only 4 hours a night failed to show any improvement in memory efficiency.

I think that people are different. I know a lot of people that sleep just 5 hours . night , and they are just ok . i`m the guy that needs at least 7 hours to be 100% healthy and active . If one night , i will sleep less than 4 hours , the next night , i must sleep a little more than the other night .I need at least 9 hours to recover . it`s good to sleep just 7-8 hours . Less it`s bad for your body .

Yes you are absolutely correct. There are many people who are comfortable with 4-5 hours of sleeping a day and i am a kind of person who needs atleast 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Yes, less sleep means we are depriving our health with good and enough ingredients. Thanks for posting to my discussion and have a great day. Cheers.

my sleep are getting too irregular these days and sometimes i wonder why that is happening, sometimes i sleep for 3 hours in the afternoon only to stay awake all through the night and into the early hours of the next day, so i can say i still manage to get some 6-7 hours of sleep in a day
• India
23 Sep 09
Hi tundeemma. Nice that you manage 6 to 7 hours sleep a day. But it seems to be a form of broken sleep and I doubt whether you can feel fesh and fit the whole day since I never get the sleep satisfaction if I get a broken sleep and feel sleepy the entire day. Thanks for responding to my discussion and have a great day. Cheers:-)

I used to have about 6-8 hours of sleep. When I became active on the internet I noticed I have less time for sleep. I've become so engrossed with what I do here, mostly on earning sites and a few hours on reading the news and exploring other sites. Now on the average I get about 4-5 hours a day.

Oh is it? Dont you feel sleepy or get tired due to lack of sufficient sleep and that too if you are online for more number of hours, then the high possibility is that you will get tired soon and your eyes may catch the burning sensation.

I work at night....so usually I sleep in the morning....in order for me to function completely is for me to sleep at least 8hrs or else I am not myself, plus the fact that I have migraine, so if I sleep for only 4-5 hrs a day i have to prepare Advil because for sure i'll have migraine later, but if i sleep during the night, 5-6 hrs is enough. I'm telling you sleeping during the night is really different from the sleep that you're getting during day time.

Yes, working in a night shift is quite tedious and I have worked in a night shift duty for 2 months and I was totally unable to cope up with the change in routine and bio cycle. Hence I decided to give up my night shift job and started working in a day shift job eventhough the slaray is quite less which is not a cause of concern for me. Thanks for responding to my discussion and have a great day.
