......that eggplant has nicotine in it? I didn't know that until about 5 minutes ago. I was doing a few take 10 at Pickjack.com and that was a question on there. I'm not sure I believed it so I googled it and sure enough it was right. I've only cooked it a couple times but I made my kids try it. I wouldn't if I'd known it has nicotine in it. I'm mentally filing that in " you learn something new everyday".

No, I did not know that eggplant has nicotine in it. I'll bet if we would read the boxes and can of food that we eat we would be surprise what ingredients are in them. It is something that the government make the manufacturer put on them. Do you every read what is in the boxes or cans of food you eat? I have once in a while but evidently not enough.

I try to read most things. I'm kind of picky about what my kids eat. My son didn't find out about Kool-Aid until he was 5. LOL. Every time I'm reading a list of ingredients, I remember something my high school cooking teacher told us. She said that if there were more than 3 ingredients that you couldn't pronounce, you shouldn't eat it. LOL. With all the scientific mumbo-jumbo names; if I followed that advice we wouldn't be eating much.

I didn´t know that (live to learn) but that won´t make me quit eating eggplant. In fact, I quit smoking (2 packs a day) one year and a half ago because I could not afford it. My lungs are wonderful after 50 years of smoking. It seems that some people have parts of their bodies more delicate than others. My brother is allergic to everything, I´m not allergic to anything. On the other hand I get depressed easily and most of my ailments start by my head (psychosomatic). So, welcome to eggplant!

yes, but the amount is insignificant....I wouldn't worry about veggies...in low doses nicotine from veggies are working as a stimulant for our body.... Enjoy!

imsilver, I do not think you will need to be overly concern about the nicotine presence in the eggplant as the amount present is insignificant. Eggplant's nutritional value is just more evident than to be ignored and hope that you will not deprive your family the goodness and nutrition this vegetable can bring. Also, studies have shown that it is a good complement for high blood pressure treatment.

Wow, I didn't know that either. But I'm not going to change my eating habits because of it. I don't eat eggplant (never really tried it because of the texture... I've had food stuffed in it, though), but I couldn't imagine giving up tomatoes and potatoes. If you don't have any health problems that it could aggravate or smoking addiction, and as long as your not eating the leaves, or having an eggplant-eating contest, you shouldn't get sick from it I thought this site had the most interesting info: http://cavemanforum.com/index.php?topic=947.0 I think it's kind of cool. That mention of craving food items with night shades in them really makes sense, now that I think about it
