I don't think it is luck . I think Jerry is smarter. At least that is how most of ther cartoons are written. In later cartoons they are friends.

I must confess I always liked Jerry over Tom. Tom seemed like an mean idiot to me.Now I like him a little more but I love Jerry.

Tom is naughtier...and may be to please small kids who commonly like Jerry the cartoon is twisted to be in favour of the smart Jerry
