depression in a child?

Well, after a month of transition and three long years at a public school our children seem to be settling into their new private school. We have had some discussions with my DS's teachers and there seems to be some concerns out there that maybe he might be showing signs of depression. Some of the comments he has made and some of the actions he is pursuing line up with this new possibility. Depression has run in our family for a number of years but is of the mild kind. Has anyone else experienced depression in their child? If so what are some of the paths you have taken?
