If you were to write a poem, what would be it about?

I love to read and savour poems. Poems by great poets invoke so many emotions which one tend to keep, locked deep inside. Poetry draw them out. Shelly, Keats, Shakespere, Rabindranath Tagore, Stevenson, just to name a few are my all time favorites. Some poems narrate about the beauty of the beloved, some tell us about their invaluable friendships, some praise the beauty of nature's abundance, some tend to tell their overall life's experiences. Some are so melancholic that a tear drops out when you read it. If you were to write a poem what would it be about? Have you ever written a poem? What was it about? Who is your favorite all time poet? I had once written something about a terrible life experience I had with someone.

I often write poems for special occasions or memorial services, always about people I am close to. I try to give others a perspective on their lives and make it personal. I've also written poems as part of my degree course. We had to write sonnets and free verse. I prefer sonnets, and I like my poetry to rhyme, so I enjoy the poetry of Shakespeare, William Blake and Tennyson.

Writing sonnets, it is an immense task for me. You must be very good with words and really know how to put thoughts in your words. Yup, it is always a good gesture to personalize something for someone. Just wanted to know, did you graduate studying English?

That really sounds interesting. I am perusing my masters in English and I also opted for a Diploma in creative writing. There are loads of things which I need to ask you, about English literature. Hope you won't mind if I do so?

I graduated in English and History, and then went on to do an MA in Anglo American Literary Relations. It sounds scary, but it was very interesting, as we looked at how English writers influenced American writers, and vice versa. I did my dissertation on the way cultural differences influenced the production of films of Shakespeare's plays, so I also learned a lot about American history and culture. I don't write very much poetry these days, but I learned the form for various types of poem during my degree course, so I can still come up with the goods when I need to.

hello bodhisatya, yes, I have ever write poem, as a matter of fact I begin to write poem when I was a little girl, like seven or eight years old, but in Chinese not in English, I didn't even know there's was a language named English then. I would show my poem to my parents, and waiting for their compliments. I write poems ocassionally after I grow up, but only ocassionally, and most of my poems is about love, love from my parents, from my lover, and from my pet- a dog. I find writing poem is really interesting, whenever I write poem, I feel that my heart is filled with peace.

Hi bodhisatya. I've written a few poems before, but my favorite has got to be one that I've share on here before. I hope you don't mind me sharing it in this post. It is dedicated to my oldest son. Autistic One Our oldest one's a statistic, Because he is autistic, We try to be optimistic, Even when he goes ballistic. But that is rare, So don't despair, Just have a little patience. That's what he needs from you and me, So that in life he can succeed. Now that I shared one of mine, how about if you share yours?

That's okay Bodhi. There's no need to explain. You did, but I think I denied it, didn't I? LOL Your poem is very touching. Even if it is only a part of it. As for me, I'm no poet. LOL I tried dabbling in it before, but after I found out the site I submitted them to was a fraud I gave up on it. Unfortunately I don't have any of my other poems on me and I guess the site where I submitted them is no longer in service. So, it looks like they are lost forever (unless I am somehow able to remember them, that is ). Take care!

Awww it is indeed very sad. I believe if two persons love each other then they should meet. Your poems would really move the readers. Just an afterthought, sometimes sadness is beautiful, isn't it?

If I were to write a poem, I will write about how can be a person be happy in a very long duration of time and how can person identify his/her own happiness in life. I am inspired to write such titles because I'm always looking for something to makes me happy sincerely.I've been happy but it turns out to be sad again. Do we really need to suffer something after the happiness?

Hello Irene, I think you already said that you would like to write a poem about the questions which were unanswered during your child hood. Now dear friend, if I were to make a suggestion to you about happiness, that happiness is nothing but a state of mind. Think it in this way that if there weren't winter would you have appreciated summer? If there weren't nights would anyone loved the bright sunny day? happiness is always like a silver lining amongst constant dark clouds lurking over. Happiness is only for a briefest period of time among constant sadness. Hope I could be of some assistance to your question. Thanks for responding again. Bodhi

Good to know that you enjoy poetry. Tagore was a genius. So were many other Poets. For those who don't understand or have the intellect to appreciate the beauty of nature, Wordsworth wrote these lines: "A yellow primrose by the river's brim and a yellow primrose it was to him And it was nothing more."

I have written poetry that has been published but nothing of the calibre of the poets you mentioned. I tend to write poetry when I am struggling with something or unhappy. Strange isn't it? But it is challenging to begin with a paragraph or a completed story the can be reduced to a few words that still convey the meaning. Most of my poetry, if not all, describe emotions at a particular time. Great post Bodhi. I feel sure that you write too.

Wow!! so you had written some serious poetry my friend. Yes it is difficult to express your thoughts in a space of just a few lines. Someone with exceptional talent could only do so.I am proud you are one. Yup I write sometimes too, but nothing for publications. I apologize to respond back so late, I had been out of station.

Hmmm work does become an obstacle for the creative side of yours, but I guess you could still squeeze some time to pen down your thoughts and emotions through a poem. Good Luck.
