Both Windows and Linux come in many flavors. All the flavors of Windows come from Microsoft, the various distributions of Linux come from different companies. Linux is customizable in a way that Windows is not. For one, the user interface, while similar in concept, varies in detail from distribution to distribution. For example, the task bar may default to being on the top or the bottom. Also, there are many special purpose versions of Linux above and beyond the full blown distributions described above. For example, NASLite is a version of Linux that runs off a single floppy disk (since revised to also boot from a CD) and converts an old computer into a file server. This ultra small edition of Linux is capable of networking, file sharing and being a web server.

Acording to my opinion windows is the best operating system. There are lot of points in the favor of windows, let me discuss few of them. 1. Windows servers are userfriendlier than linux. I mean their help system is very good and one can understand it very quickly. 2. It caters good viewing area. Like its a nature of a human being that he feels good working in an environment whose display attracts it, it is the same case with windows, it has a good view. 3. Windows are widely used servers and you can easy get a person who can guide you in it, whenever you face any problem or anyother issue. On the other hand linux server users are usually difficult to find.

The best server OS is Linux. Most of the sites in the internet are hosted using a Linux server. And also it was used by a lot of big companies not only because it's free but very stable and has been proven to work on 24/7 environment. And the security is way far from Windows OS. We been deploying a lot of Linux server in our place and not a single one fails. And it's easier to maintain also as it's functionality are customized, optimized on what we want unlike MS that has many bloated functionality that we really don't need.
