Do you buy your laundry detergent, or make it at home? I was buying an enormous amount of landry detergent, until my neice got hold of a recipe for the laundry detergent. We tried it, and it does work very well.

Wow, I never knew you could make your own laundry detergent. Could I have that recipe? I am trying to do everything I can to save money. I buy the cheapest detergent at Walmart but if I could save even more money that would be great.

Here is that recipe for one of the laundry detergents. Keep in mind though, that i did not put the grated soap on the stove to heat up, but rather i dropped it in the bucket which i used for stirring. Works out just as well too. Homemade Laundry Soap 1/3 bar Fels Naptha or other type of soap, as listed above ½ cup washing soda ½ cup borax powder ~You will also need a small bucket, about 2 gallon size~ Grate the soap and put it in a sauce pan. Add 6 cups water and heat it until the soap melts. Add the washing soda and the borax and stir until it is dissolved. Remove from heat. Pour 4 cups hot water into the bucket. Now add your soap mixture and stir. Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir. Let the soap sit for about 24 hours and it will gel. You use ½ cup per load.

I forgot to add in, that we used a bar of ivory soap, and grated that up. And, we used the whole bar. Clothes come out nice and clean, and have a good scent.

Thank you so much, I will definitely give this a try. It looks pretty easy to make. I wonder if you can use dove bar soap?

I've never made my own laundry detergent at home before. I'd love to see your recipe! I tend to buy mine liquid and at the store. I only ever buy it though when I have coupons so I get my ALL detergent dirt cheap! It's great!

hello ShirleyBillingsley, wow! your niece must be good. that way you can start a business of your own selling detergent. maybe you can share to us. hehehe well, as for me we go to Clark once a year and we buy our one year supply of laundry detergent and other items as well. that way, we don't need to buy every now and then in the grocery. find it more economical. in fact we still have one big bag that we did not use yet. this will last till such time that we're going there again.

I don't think i would want to market the laundry detergent though, since the whole idea behind making it, is to save money, and someone would end up paying the same market price, if i were to sell it. I just like using it for my own personal use. I will sell photos, ebooks, and some home made mixes, as i have them done and ready, but otherwise, i just like saving money at home.

I didn't even know that you could make your own laundry detergent. How do you do it? Right now, I buy the biggest box of detergent I can, since there are 7 of us living here. I try to save money any way that I can, and I would also like to be more environmentally friendly.

If you have one of those fussy husbands that think "name brand" is better, try this: add a box of baking soda, and a box of borax to you regular laundry detergent. It will go twice as far, and no one will know any difference.

I buy my laundry detergent at the grocery store because I don't have time to make it myself lol. But I think it's very nice to make the detergent yourself. Some of our clothes are very delicate and sometimes I have to buy 2 different detergent at the same time. :(

I don't have a problem with using my laundry detergent on delicate items, since it works just fine. It's gentle, leaves a nice fresh smell, and cleans all my clothes very nicely. I don't like buying too much laundry detergent. I did that at one time, and had extravagant laundry bills every month, so now, i like doing it this way.

My homemade laundry detergent came out smelling very nice. And, it only took me a few minutes to actually make it. I am looking at another recipe, that i think will work out, equally as well.
