Smiley faces??

I have noticed that a lot of people are using smiley faces in there discussions and even though I have attempted to make them as well in my discussions I have noticed that none of them turn out they way I see on other members posts. Can anyone who makes these share with how you do it? I would really like to be able to make all those silly faces that I see. Thanks =)
