Why do women of high intellect and strong personality turn a man off?

I have a friend who got married recently and he was about 40 yrs. old already. I asked him why he waited so long to reach this decision. He said he had many girl friends in the past and all of them have strong personalities and are highly intellectual. Being an architect himself, he is also highly educated but and must be able to relate with women on he same level.
Finally he met someone who is soft spoken, cute and charming. A woman of his choice.
Can this be a general sentiment common among men? or it was just his own feeling.

Are you saying that men don't like women with a high intellect and a strong personlity?. I am going to have to say that it was your friends feeling. Every guy has his own type of woman.

I think this is a matter of personal preference. Most men are dominant in nature and would prefer a submissive wife. I also know a lot of men who doesn't like women with strong personalities and those who tend to be overly assertive. I guess in a way, men would still want to have the upper hand in the relationship and takes more comfort in knowing they are more in control.
