Im pissed up with my Compaq laptop

September 2008 when my daughter who worked overseas sent me a new Compaq laptop as a birthday gift. I took care of it more than my precious persian cat. 3 weeks ago I noticed a thread-like linings at the bottom of the laptop's screen. I disregarded it at first thinking it would be gone after I shutdown the unit. But to my dismay, 3 or 4 more thread-like linings were added to the previous one, almost covering the taskbar when I opened the laptop the next day. Each time I opened my laptop, more linings were added and they are in different annoying colors. I brought my laptop from 1 technician to another and all of them said they can't do nothing to fix it since its a factory defect or they haven't found a solution to it or it's cause. And the store where my daughter bought the unit is a 1 hour and 40 minute plane ride from my home. Today, the linings have covered most of the taskbar that I have to guess where the sites or folders that I have recently opened. Then, I noticed that the screen would flicker for several seconds making it hard for me to read the text I'm reading. And to make the problem worst is that some of the linings have started to accumulate the topmost screen. I have counted 4 lines today and I would guess more will be appearing tomorrow and the next days. I am afraid in a matter of days the linings will cover the entire screen of my laptop's monitor. What's happening with my 1 and only COMPAQ laptop? I heard from 1 of the computer technicians I consulted with that he met 1 case as mine with the same brand. Hers was worst than mine because the linings have already covered half of the screen's monitor. Anybody here who had an idea of what's happening to my COMPAQ laptop? Is there a cureof this problem? I'm sure this isn't a virus or something.

That definitely sounds like a problem with your LCD screen. They are easy to replace, you can generally search for the make and model of your laptop and purchase a compatible LCD screen or you can check out the Compaq website directly. All said and done it's worth communicating with Compaq as regards this problem. Good luck. Andrew

You seem to have a serious problem with your LCD. Either its connections are broken and getting wider or something (heat may be) is triggering the circuits of LCD. Here's the deal you should take into account. Ask your sister to consult the store she bought that Compaq. Tell her to learn the possibilities of fixing it overseas. Global brands like Compaq, HP, Dell etc, offer worldwide guarantee, no matter where you are. But you must still be in the valid warranty period if your sister had extended it while purchasing. September 2008 seems at least more than one year old, which most of the brands offer max. Compaq as far as I know offer only 1 year warranty (or guarantee) if you don't add lets say a 90 bucks more for extending it. However, they do have lifetime chat support for your product through their web site's support link. You can contact them and tell your story also. But!!! be prepared for spending a bunch of money to solve your problem. They will obviously replace your LCD and ask for a mere $200-$300 for it. Good luck. Wish you could face this problem before that 1 year ended. Even 1 day is very important. Been there done that. One of my friend's Dell laptop had graphics card problem but when he asked me for help it was just 1 year and 2 days after his purchase. What a shame it was. He spent $130 to fix it for just missing the deadline for just 2 days. Good luck to you.

My guess is that your laptop's LCD is giving up meaning it's already need replacement, I also had the same problem on my old compaq laptops which I already stop using because of the appearing lines and never bothered of sending it for repair because I decided on buying a new one since it's already that old.

I'll try contact Compaq admin, and if they cannot provide good solution to my problem, that's the time i would say the service is bad.

Hey, I'm am also using a Compaq Presario and I also have had flickering problem before after a couple months of use. At first I tried to ignore it, but it worsened and got to a point that the screen would black out for several seconds, which can be really annoying. Good thing it was still under warranty so I was able to get a replacement and service parts for free. According to a friend, when handling your laptop monitor, you should pull up or pull down from the center of the monitor. This way, the force is evenly distributed and protect your LCD from damage.

"...pull up or pull down from the center of the monitor..". I'll do that. I hope it's not late and I wish the lines would disappear. Thanks.
