Well. They are suitable for any period, I strongly believe. Nothing can be solved through violence, even if it is in reply to another act of violence. (Sadly it's what happening today. And those people would have now realised the value of ahimsa, but no use. They can't drop their arms now)

Hi 'snshuklalis'. These days I am reading Gandhi's autobiography. And while I was reading it the same question occurred in my mind also. Are Gandhi's teachings of Truth and Non-Violence relevant in today's world or not? Well, this question is very hard to answer. And Why? Because no body today is trying to solve the biggest global problems with truth and Non-Violence. It seems almost impossible to fight against terrorism without violence and without the use of force and weapons. We can't even imagine such a thing. So, to today's generation non-violence does not seem to work at all. But the point I want to make is that no body even tries to follow the truth and ahimsa. Mahatma Gandhi said that "The things I taught are not new, they are as old as hills". He meant that the theory of truth and ahimsa are universal truth. So how can they be wrong today? I believe if we act with truth and non-violence every problem can be solved. We just need to change our perception. And we need to have courage to follow his path. Sometimes it seems to me that Gandhi's methods are most suitable today than they were ever. Because our society is depleting. There is so much crime. Laws are made in every country but still nobody is ever able to put a stop to crime. So, may be we need different approach. May be we need to see the problems with different perceptions. At last I would like to say that I believe that his methods are totally suitable for today's life, even more than they were in past.

Ahimsa is still relevant today and will remain so till the end of the world.. Every problem in the world can be solved by truth and the path of non-violence.... Truth alone prevails
