Well, i am now have a flu again, like i always did in rainy season. The trick is, every time i go to a doctor, or just by generic medicine. The medicine always seem to make me sleepy every time i eat / drink them. Why is that? Did the medicine actually need us to sleep so it can work, or it just some side effect and the medicine still working fine even if we not take a sleep. Thanks

You should have posted the name of the medicine here so we could give you a thorough explanation for your condition. As an allied health professional, i believe that your flu medicine has an ingredient that also has a side effects to contribute to your sleepiness, like for example chlorphenamine maleate. This ingredient has a sedative effect that cause you too become tired easily. That's why they put there some patient's information inside every medication for us to follow *it's the small folded paper inside every box. Hope this one helped you even a bit.

There are flu medications that won't make you sleepy. I tried that, but guess what, it didn't work for me! When catching cold or flu you need to take plenty of rest. If you don't, it'd take a longer time to heal. I'm not a doctor, but I think that's why most of flu medications will put you to sleep.

I believe the medicine will work even if you don't fall asleep. Sleep is definately good for you when you have the flu though. They say to get plenty of rest and push the fluids. Make sure you keep yourself hydrated. I'm pretty sure making you fall asleep is just a side effect, but believe it or not, it is a helpful one.

Yes, hearing you now i am sure that sleep is only a side effect. Although sleep can help the healing process, still i can not sleep after i drink the medicine because i have job and i don't want my job yelling at me if i sleep at office hour. Anyway, thanks for your respond.
