Hi vathsala! Besides my mother tongue Hindi, I can speak in Punjabi, Urdu and English. I am comfortable speaking in either of the language (if you happen to talk to me one day, you will come to know how comfortable I am....).

Hi Deepa It is good that you know 5 languages. It helps you where ever you go and you can easily communicate with the local people in their own language and get your work done like shopping, asking for a address and finding any way to the place where you stay etc.

Wow! I didn't know that India had such a variety of different languages! I am impressed that you know so many! My native language is English, but my goal is to become fluent in at least 2 or 3 other languages. Right now I am studying Japanese as I have been very interested in the culture of Japan since I was a child.

India has got more than 14 languages and in each state, people will speak their own local language. There are several tribes also who will speak their own language. learning new language is fun and useful too. I also like to learn Japanese but who will teach me. Through internet, I think you can learn any language. once upon a time when i was working in a company, Russian books will be there through which I have learnt the alphabets and some language but now i forgot due to lack of practice and conversation. I too like the culture of japan and their intelligence

Hi dear, You may aware that my mother tongue is malayalam and I am more comfortable with this language. I can speak Hindi and English too. I have been in north for many years so I learnt to speak Hindi by staying here but still I am confused with some grammar in Hindi. You also know that there is gender difference in Hindi language which is not applicable in Malayalam all the time. So I have confusions with this or some time I may forget to use it(lol).

ha ha so nice of your dear, I know about these and I am not meant the same. For eg. if you want to say that 'I went somewhere', in hindi if the person is female the ending should be 'thi' if male it will be 'tha'. I am confused with this and forgetting to use the right form. I hope now you got my point. This kind of grammar is not applicable in Malayalam and English.

Hi Sree Yes I know that you are a Malayalee. Since I like Malayalam and would like to learn to speak it very fluently as my own mother tongue, i will watch Asianet Channel and try to pick up the words too. You are fluent in English as it is evident in your discussion. Of course you are living in Delhi since a long time, so learning the local language is not a problem. As days goes by you will come over the grammatical problems too dear. For feminine gender use E sound in the end, like ladka----ladki, kutta---kuttiya, nana--nani. if you have any doubts, ask me. I will help you in my capacity

Hi cream Are you interested to learn any other language other than your mother tongue? I think it is helpful if you learn more than one language and where ever you go it will be useful for you

My local language is Danish, and I also speak English, German and some Italian. I have lived in Italy twice and at that time I was pretty good at Italian, but I haven't been to Italy for 9 years, and I have forgotten some of the words by now, because I don't speak or write Italian in my daily life. I have studied French at school, that was 15 years ago, and I don't think I would be able to speak French today, but I am able to understand some French. I have studied Japanese as well, I am still a beginner, and I am only able to speak and write a little bit.

Oh! you know Italian. That is great. I am indeed happy to know that you know so many languages including Japanese. I was learning Russian for some time but now I forgot totally because unless we practice it daily we can not remember them and here no body knows any foreign language and people will speak either the local language or their own language

The languages I can Understand, Read, Write and Speak: English Hindi Telugu Tamil(mother tongue)Kannada and Sanskrit. My dream I wnat my Sanskrit to be on par with my proficiency/fluency with English. I am slowly moving towards that. In the next one and half years I would like to make my Sanskrit in par with my English. The languages I Understand, Read, Write(error-free writing): Malayalam Urdu. Why I don't include speaking in this is because of fluency. If I am given six-months compulsion to either of these I could bring them to the level of Kannada. Why I say Kannada is because Kannada is not a language i learnt in school. According to me a person who learns any language in school can URWS fluently provided he is not averse to learning languages. I love languages. I have great facility with them. When I say I know to write I don't mean just writing the script, I mean I can write orginal writing worthy of publication. Likewise for me ability to speak would mean being able to addressa crowd extempor.

Thak you very much Vathsala for your good wishes for me to achieve my Sanskrit related goal. I need the good wishes.Twice earlier I tried attempting obtaining formal qualifications but wasn't successful because of my current job. I used to get stuck on my duties whenever I wanted to enroll/sit for exams for distance education. Now, I am trying something different- a slightly different route. If it succeeds well then I will be atleast be on my path to achieving the goal.If my mastery of Sanskrit could be on par with Mother Tongue then there is nothing like it!

Your goal is reasonable. So my best wishes will be always there. Since you are having great interest in Sanskrit, definitely you will succeed in your goal and that day I will be the first person to celebrate my friend gadhi's success

You are highly talented. Really I love to learn so many languages URWS But the chances are less. When ever I get a chance of learning any new language, I do not miss to utilise that chance. In this way, I have learnt Telugu, Hindi, English(those were the subjects in school at Hyderabad) kannada ( currently I live in Bangalore and it is the local language) and little Malayalam very few words of Marathi( from the friends) I think very soon you will be mastered Sanskrit too par your mother tongue

Less than I would like! But I recently discovered a passion for languages so I hope the number will increase. English is my mother tongue, my next best language is German which I have a pretty good understanding of, and will improve even more the next year when I work there. I used to be almost fluent in Spanish at school but I forgot EVERYTHING. I didn't even think this was possible! I can understand quite well but speaking or writing isn't an option any more, which I hate. I speak basic Welsh, and basic Romanian. In the future I hope to re-learn Spanish so I can stop feeling guilty, and be fluent in German within the next few years. I can only hope to be as impressive as you!

Hi bamamo You are now itself very impressive lol. I really feel jealous of you as i do not know any language which you know except english. All the best for re-learning spanish too

Hi Neelima I am fine. I am happy to note that you can speak different languages fluently. It is helpful in times of need. Since I can also speak all those languages, where ever I go, i can manage with these languages without any difficulty. Thanks for responding
