I hate the fact that we waste sooo much plastic in plastic grocery bags. It is sooo bad for the enviroment and yet we waste thousands every single day! I tried to keep them at my home but now I have millions and nothing to do with them! So...I was in the grocery store the other day and I saw an elderly man walk in with a tote. He put it in his grocery cart and as he got groceries he piled them into the tote. I couldnt help but thinking what a GREAT IDEA it was! So I mentioned it to my hubby...and we decided this was a great idea and from now on will start doing this. We will carry our grocerys around in the store in the tote in a grocery cart...put them up on the checkout, checkout and then right back into the tote, to the van into the house! Does anyone else do this or tell me what u think of this idea?

I think that's a good idea. I wish more people will think along this line. If we put our acts together we will make this world a much better place to live in. Plastics are one of the worst causes of environmental problems. I hope scientists will come up with a real bio-degradable kind of plastic to help solve the problem. Meanwhile, your suggestion is a welcome contribution. Thanks. cheers!

They are now making Ecobags or biodegradable plastic bags out of the skin of sweet potato. So I hope biodegradability will ultimately lessen contamination and pose less dangers to the carrying capacity of the environment. At home, we try to re-use the plastic bags AT LEAST twice more: the second time for use when buying grocery, the third time as garbage bag.

I use my cloth bags and the 99 cent ones we bought at Superstore and SAfeway for our groceries, and if we go to a place that still has plastic bags for free, and the item is too big to put in the other bags, when I get home that plastic bag becomes a trash bin liner. I ran out of the plastic bags so my friend brought over all her unused bags because she goes to a store where they still have the plastic bags. Plastic bags are useful if they are used more then once. If you use them to give away something you no longer want to slip it into the rummage pile, for a kitchen trash bin liner, to protect something,or return it to the store where they will recycle it, it is fine. However if you just use it to carry groceries and then throw it in the trash, it is not right.

Yes, this is a good idea. Here from June the supermarket won't provide plastic bags for free any more. It may be inconvenient, but I think at least it is a good method for the environment. I always bring my own tote to go shopping. If more people will use less plastic bags and it will be better for our planet. I love China

When I go shopping if the store has plastic and paper bags I always ask for paper. However, Walmart has only plastic and that is where I do most of my food shopping. I use the plastic bags for picking up my dogs poop outside. It's the easiest way to get rid of it.

I use plastic grocery bags for garbage. What are we supposed to put our garbage in if we can't use plastic bags? I guess I can't win, no matter what I do.
