what is the meaning of XP in window XP

i am a bit confused about this. as XP stands for xtreeme processing or something else. do you know. please share with us.

From what I always understood it is just two letters from inside a word. eXPerience. I have heard other takes on it but that one always seemed to stand out above all others.

It stands for eXPerience. A reputed software company that came to my college for campus recruitment last year posed this question in the final round. Not one person got it right.

I think XP means Experience.. but some person says..XP means Xtream and xtra power.. but i thinl..it's means Experience....what you say...

actually windows xp stands for Xtreme performance and not experience or whatsoever. microsoft keeps on changing names of their OS and when they reach the final stage they again change the name for example windows vista was codenamed windows longhorn but during its final release, they named it vista.
