I personally dont have a home built computer, but i have hear that they are way better than pre-made ones if you know what your doing. You can built it according to what you will use it. Always wanted to make one but my dad doesnt trust the idea and just buys ones. Most of the time your paying for the brand name and not the parts.

i built my computer just a couple of months ago. not very much. just its all i could buy with the money i have. i'm satisfied and it serves our purpose anytime. it's Q8300 Quad Core Intel cpu 250 MHZ, Asustek motherboard, 4gig ram, 250gig (seagate) sata drive and two old hard drives (a 40gig seagate and an 80gig western digital). My video card is also old- nvidia 7200 series and a 17" mag monitor (also old). i built it myself.

Yes, I have a home built (or home assembled) computer, I assembled it one year ago. It's only 3 Ghz, Dual Core, GIGABYTE motherboard with core2duo supported, 1 GB DDR2 Ram, 80 GB SATA Hard Disk, 17" LCD monitor. I use on-board VGA and standard power supply. Nothing much compatible to yours explained above, but I'm satisfied with what I've assembled. It's enough for my day to day computer activities.
