Liverpool loose from Arsenal 1-2 and sent out from carling cup. This season they are very inconsistant. Loose 5 times from 6 games (beaten by Chelsea, Fiorentina, Sunderland, Lyon and Arsenal) is not good enough for their campaign to EPL & UCL champion. what's wrong?

Hi adiems, Last night loss to Arsenal (Carling Cup) is not same as losses to Chelsea and Sunderland in Premier League and Fieorentina and Lyon in Champion League. Carling cup is the least cup for the big four team. They usually played the youngster to give them some playing experience. If you look at the first 11, only Dirk Kuyt is maintain in the team. The others are from the second squad or a reserved. Bernitez did not put too much hope in winning that trophy.

Same here, I think that the carling cup loss was nothing as they used mostly subs and probably are tired after beating the might red devils. I really thought that this would be a cup that Rafa should be aiming for as the other cups aren't that easy and if wins this and fails the others he can still say that he had something to show for.

As I mention above, the big four team will not interested in this cup. They prefer to others cups or championship. They rather did not win anything then win that Carling Cup. The fans and the owners will never satisfied even you won this cup for 10 consecutive years. The rest might be happy to win it but not for the big four. This cup only a testing field for the youngster. They might put their star player if they reach the final. They still in the championship, Champion League and FA cup and it is too early to to rule Liverpool out of this competition especially in Champion League. They worst record before (after 3 games) is 2006/2007 when they draw once and lost twice in their group match but they move forward until semi final.

Whoah, if you don't win anything at all at some stage the Carling cup would be a great deal. I remember manutd not winning any thing when chelsea dominated the PL and Manutd were satisfied at the carling cup and also paid tribute to Jimmy Davies who had a car accident. I think that it is important and I remember Chelsea fielding a very strong side against the spurs 2 years ago to save A.Grants job. So If I were a L'pool fan and from the prospect of already losing 4 times in the league, lost 2 in the CL I'd give the Carling cup a go.

did you watch the match? both sides are putting youngsters to play for that match. Most top teams usually fill in their youngster to give them chance to perform or impress their manager on carling cup matches

I agree with you. youngsters can not be a reason, because most top teams played with their younsters or sub players.

I feel that the squad lacks depth, that is their main problem. When key players are injured, they turn to younger players. Not that younger players are not good enough, but they lack match time. If liverpool do not have enough funds to buy, then be like Arsenal, groom the younger players. And time will show whether. The young Arsenal team has blossom under Arsene 'the professor' Wenger.

I don't know guys maybe yesterday liverpool just playing with many young players and arsenal too. But as you know arsenal young player is the best on epl. I think last match can't review liverpool's performance. They were great when defeating man.utd on anfield.

Inconsistency is the main Liverpool's problem. I think they're so depended on Gerrard and Torres. When the two players didn't play, they'll play a bad game. Alonso's departure also left a great problem in the midfield. But maybe the problem in midfield will be solved soon by Aquilani. Anyway, they won't be EPL & UCL champion because Man. United will win the two competitions. Glory glory Man. United...

Yeah, I do agree. With out Torres and Gerrard they would look like an ordinary team since their tactics were only made to accomodate these two great players. But how bout the rest ? I don't think Rafa isn't a world class coach as he claims and clearly has spent money really unwisely. If he can change his tactic to improve their teamwork and short passing play, they can be a totally different side.

Their coach is the culprit and also their Tom Hicks and George Gillette for not supporting Bentitez to buy a player who can be Xabi's replacement. I hope Aquilani will show good things there but as he is not fit and they have already lost five matches, you'd feel for them as they have a mountain to climb in both CL and the PL. But I still hope they have good luck though.

You cannot really put last night's defeat for Liverpool alongside the other defeats they have had recently as it was basically two reserve teams playing each other. Liverpool's main problem is that there is not enough depth in their squad and they are always in real trouble if the likes of Torres or Gerrard are injured.

nothing wrong with them --- only thing they need to practice --- play for the club, do not play for yourself
