Life somewhat determained?

I have no real background in philosophy. Ive always been interested in it, but up until recently never did much about my interest. The beginning of this semester I realized life is short and the pursuit of knowledge is endless, so I have become a reader and now read all the time. I just ordered my first wave of modern philosophy and i cant wait to tackle it. But until then I only have my own theories to go by. These are just ideas of my own, not based on anything. Someone else Im sure has thought of something similar but i came to these conclusions on my own. One such idea is partial determinism. I think that there are many paths for us to take in our lives, but they are clear cut defined paths. Major life choices are not determined, you have the free will to pick which way to go, but your choice will cause a whole series of determined events. You can stray from your path, but i think some sort of force will try to put you back on the right track. What do you guys think?

I agree with all you have written...I do believe we have a set path but as you say we have choices that will affect us in many ways..every thing we do affects us and the people around us in some way but I do believe we have a stronger force that will nudge us back on the the pre determmined path...I see you are a deep thinker, that is good, stay with it.
