I was watching The Dark Knight tonight for probably about the 15th time (and by the way it's still amazing) and began wondering if Christopher Nolan was indeed going to make a new Batman movie. Well Batman fans, the rumors are circling. According to various websites including IMDB and HollywoodChicago it posts that in development right now is the Untitled Batman Project. Also if you venture into Christian Bales bio on the website he is slated as being brought back for the untitled project. Assumed date of release would put it sometime out in 2011, but more than likely I would say 2012 since casting still has to be done on Villians. Rumors are still circulating as to who the villians would be. Johnny Depp from what I understand is being considered for the part of the Riddler, however Depp has many projects upcoming so it could be hard to secure him to play the roll. Another interesting villian would be the return of Catwoman being played by either Angelina Jolie or with an unusual twist of having Maggie Gyllenhaal coming back despite being blown up in the warehouse. Lastly another rumor was Hoffman playing the Penguin. All I know is I am very exciting at the opportunity to see how darker than can make this Batman series. The Dark Knight took viewers on an emotional roller coaster ride. Dealing with the rise of the Joker the night he completely took over the city and was riding off in the police cruisers. Hopefully this next one doesn't dissapoint when it finally gets made if the in development Batman project is true. A rumored story line I heard is that after the completion of The Dark Knight, Batman dissapears and is no longer on night patrol keeping the streets safe. Now if you can remember the Mob was basically all but gone since the Joker killed a good portion of the leaders. Well in this storyline the mob rises back to a position of power and the streets begin to become terrorized as Gothems worst fears are realized. In a desperation act they call on the Batman to return. In his return though, a new villian lingers in the darkness hungering off of peoples fears. This in course would be more than likely the Riddler. He offers the people of Gotham a chance to remove their fears only to instead use them against the people of Gotham. I really like the outline of that story and hope they use some of it because whoever wrote it had some killer ideas. Hopefully this rumor is somewhat true, but hard to say since the movie is in early development stages. I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of December beginning of January we find out that the new Batman movie is on. Why would they not make a third one? It really would beat me why they wouldn't. The last movie not only got tremendous hype, but was indeed a great movie all together. Plus the profits don't lie. People went to see it even in a toughened economy. Batman is one of if not the most popular superheros ever, of course it is going to make money. Now will it make as much as the last one. Probably not. The reason is because of Ledger. While he played an excellent roll many went to see his movie because this actor in the early stages to prime of his career sadly died causing a spike in the interest of the movie. Only way the movie would outpast The Dark Knight would be if Depp got the movie and he died. Regardless this will be a great movie when and if this project ever does get devoloped. Christopher Nolan should not stop now, but keep going while he has the fan support for this project. I would like to hear your opinions on what you think the next Batman movie will be about? Who do you like for a villian and whom do you see playing that villian? Do you think it will be more popular than the last movie?
