A trick I use to remember new words in another language is to associate the word with some image that will be easy for you to recall. As an example: I'm learning Russian and the first example I was given was the word for "waiter" is afeetseant, which kind of sounds like efficient, so think of an efficient waiter. The word for "look for" is iscott, so I think of people looking for someone named Scott when I have to recall that word. It still takes practice to use this trick, but it makes learning words easier. Another trick I learned is to review the new words you've learned that day right before going to sleep. When I do this I have found that the words I was having trouble with the night before are easier to remember the next day.

Dear calmingblue, Welcome to myLot and glad to response to your topic. Yes, English need a lot of practice and reading. So, if you come across a new word or vocabulary - it is advisable that you search for the meaning and try to use it regularly whenever you have the chance. Practice makes perfect! Try to watch more good English movies, listen to English songs too :) Practice with understanding and knowledge is like putting the words you learned into 'the long term memory disk' All the best, if you free you can try to response my topic of discussion and we can practice English together. All the best in your examination. By the way, which part of China are you staying? I have visited Shanghai and Beijing.

Read a lot and always keep a dictionary by your side as you read. Try to understand the meanings of the new words you come across. And the most important thing is try using them in your conversation. That way you remember a lot of new words in English. And whenever you get time try to write something about a subject using the new words you have learned. That will improve your vocabulary a lot. Practice makes perfection in every sphere in life. All the best.

I also experienced the same thing with you. I feel English lessons were difficult, because my memory of the words that never learned not last long, so I must always open the dictionary to remember it again.
