I think escrow can make our transaction become more reliable and safe. No one want to be scammed on the internet transaction especially when we buy something from someone who has no good reputation on the internet, which usually happened on online auction services. I think by using escrow, we can pay the money to the escrow service first and tell them when we receive the goods in good condition as well as said on the transaction deal. But if we receive bad goods we can complain it to the seller and if the seller won't to give return for that goods, we can tell the escrow for send back the money to us by sending them all the details about that bad goods as evidence.
