If you got cancer, would you take modern cure like laser, chemo, etc?

This based on my mother in law story. My mother in law got stage 3 cancer. Doctor who diagnose her say that she only has 6 month left. The doctor suggest that she take either laser or chemo therapy. She refused to take any doctor medication. She use alternative medication instead. She lived for 7 years after that getting her family support and watching some of her grand child born. There are some inconvenience but with though determination she can hold that long. When she still in hospital she met some people that share the same sickness. They exchange story. Taking chemo or laser therapy made the body broken, hair fall, and painfull. Those people passed away after 4 or more months later. I am thinking that the current cancer cure kill people more than the cancer. What do you think?
