How to wash clothes clean in washing machine other than using any detergent powd

I have tried using all the detergent powders using in washing machine for clothes....but little or little dirt remains on clothes..can't get them cleaned as we clean with hand...Is there any thing else we can use along with detergent powder in to washing machine.....good day....
