My wife already made the first step several years back particularly in the bath room. Instead of taking a bath with faucets/shower running for a long 40 to 60 minutes a day, she cuts it down to 20 minutes. I wanted to have each of the household its share of conserving water. And I decided to make a list and post it in our ref's door and make it as part of the general house rule #___. Can you fill in my list on how to conserve water in the kitchen?

Conserving water should be on a holistic basis not just in the kitchen. What is done in our kitchen is that all items are scrubbed in one lot say twice in the day and the scrubbed vessels are washed one at a time keeping the faucet (quarter) open. While the washed item is being placed in the drainer with one hand the next vessel is kept under the tap with the other hand, while the faucet remains open. This process continues till all the items are washed. The waste water is collected in a chamber from where it is chanellised to the trees. The bathroom, kitchen and basic water is also connected to this chamber. The faucet is kept open only after the teeth are brushed and this applies also when shaving is done. Bathing from the buckets also conserves water.

thanks for replying. but before an idea becomes a reality, one has to start implementing it somewhere. in this case, we have decided to do it in the kitchen first. your tips are remarkable.thank you very much.

Do not wash dishes at hand, use dish washer instead. And do not start dish washer if it is not full. While washing vegatables and fruits, gather them in a bowl. Fill the bowl with water and wash them there not flowing water.

me and some friends decided to wash even dishes in a bowl wull with water and bio wash products. thin it`s better than wash all at hand in a contionus running water jet
