I have ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix. I had Windows since install, then changed to the previous version of ubuntu and then installed 9.10. Ubuntu is as great as ever, but the remix is an odd concept at first, because you don't have a desktop, it's approach is more like that of a phone system, replacing the desktop with sidebar menu and a main window with icons of the programs you have installed in a given menu section (like if you selection applications on the sidebar, the main window that should be the desktop will be covered with the application programs you have). Otherwise, it runs with no problems, found all my hardware and well, has no virus nor need for a antivirus.

I have not tried UNR9.10 but running a regular ubuntu desktop edition with gnome. I do not think kde is a good choice for my netbook. Now my ubuntu is running smoothly with almost no threat of malwares or virus. It is really wonderful

I am using Ubuntu for almost 6 months and now my OS is Ubuntu 9.10. I think Ubuntu is a very good Linux distribution. It's also very suitable for newbies. But in my mind, Ubuntu9.04 is better than 9.10. I am using ADSL, and the bug in Network Manager of 9.10 makes me failed to access the Internet at first.
