How to add the animated avatars ?

I wanted to have a animated avatar for mylot..But the image chosen is animating only in my avatar setting pages.But the animation is not reflecting my avatar and my animated image is still idle like an ordinary imae.What is the image format that is to be uploaded in our preferences page? Else, please let me know some link of the animated image sites so that I can use one from such sites...
