Hi friends, It is most common nowadays that the kids are watching some cartoon channels and having their food. Do you allow your kid to have their food in front of the television. it is really bad to follow this habit. But most of the mother do not know how to avoid this habit. wHAT about you friends.

Thank you srija for your response. It is really tough and challenging to train the kid and help him to eat in one place.

I don't have kids but growing up, my mother never allowed it. Meal time was meal time and we were not allowed to be distracted. We also had to sit and finish our food otherwise, we couldn't leave the table. My cousin's children always have food in front of the TV and they don't eat properly. They're distracted and they play. One meal usually takes them 2 hours to finish up because they're always playing. If they were 3 years old, I think it's okay but I don't think it's appropriate for kids age 8 and 10. I don't have kids but I wouldn't allow mine to eat proper meals in front of the TV.

This is an issue I have never particularly understood. Perhaps it is for the fact that as a child I have always been permitted to eat my dinner in front of the television but that was purely down to the fact that I lived in a small maisonette where there simply was not room to place a dining table and since my parents worked shifts it was often a case of having to provide for oneself instead of having a cooked meal ready at a given time each day. I think what truly matters is the amount of time children spend in front of the television on the whole and the nature of the programs they are exposed to which should be a primary concern and not whether they eat their dinner in front of the television or not. I understand that eating a meal around a table with a family encourages discussion and "bonding" of sorts but I have never suffered with regards to either of these aspects because I was not given said opportunity. Since eating with my boyfriend's family in a household where television is barely watched, I haven't noticed any particularly positive result of not watching television either at meal times or as a whole. Perhaps you could explain why it is that this is a really bad habit? I would sooner have children sit eating their dinner in front of the television where they can be supervised and controlled than have the unnecessary hassle of children who fidget and are inattentive. Routine and order can still be instilled in a child in many ways, none of which I can think involve a dinner table.

hi priya, good morning, no, i wont allow to eat infront of the TV. because, they won't eat, they simple watch tv, their hand will be in the plate that's all, if i allow them, i have scold them to eat, for every minute.. its very difficult that. so, we eat together in the dinning room. nice topic, have a nice day.

Thank you neelima for your response. I agree with you that it is really bad to encourage the kids to eat infront of the television. They simply watch the TELEVISION ONLY.

I don't encourage my kid not to have their food while still in the grocery & not been paid yet. Its easy to teach them while they are still young so that they cannot grow with that habit.
