Hi Neel, I cook my rice the classic way using the rice casserole put on the gas range, wait for it to boil, open it, remove excess rice soup or alm then cover it again, wait for 3-5 minutes and bingo you have a rice ready to be served. if you want variation sprinkle some herbs or seasoning. Cheap but still gives your the right taste of it!

Sure... i took it out and ready to be used again. I will now use this maybe during weekdays and go back the classic way during weekends. It will make our lives easier and you're right it will keep the rice warm.

My married daughter presented me a rice cooker last year. I kept it to give it to my other daughter on her marriage. So though I have rice cooker, I do not know how to use it or what is it's convenience and advantage. Since you all are telling so much about it, I will use it now. But how to keep the rice cooker and go out? Who will switch off the gas? I did not follow.

The rice cooker has automatic switch off facility. But the gas will be on is it not?

hi aunty, it is very easy to keep, as normal, you take the rice cooker vessel, put some rice into the vessel, what it out, put water as u put normally and keep the vessel into the rice cooker, close the lid, put the plug, and on the start button that's all, it will off automatically, when the rice cooked. hope this explanation will help you, it is easy to clean also. thankyou, have a nice day.

Hi neelima, Rice cooker is good for cooking rice because it helps to save the fuel. After the preparation, the rice will remain hot if we keep the same in rice cooker. Even in summer if we keep the cooked rice in rice cooker it will never get spoiled. I am using rice cooker for preparing rice. We used to eat the boiled rice so rice cooker is very necessary for us to save the time and fuel.

Neelima, I am really sorry, I misunderstood the rice cooker. When reading your reply I realized my mistake, I wrote about the thermal cooker, not the rice cooker, ha ha very funny. I was busy with work yesterday, when I read your discussion I thought about the thermal cooker and wrongly concluded that you are asking about the same. Now only I realized you are asking something different, sorry dear, very sorry.

Hi, neelimaravi. I have never heard of a rice cooker. That was very nice of your sister to give you this as a gift. I normally just cook my rice in a medium sized black pot that is stainless steel.

hi there. in my house way back home, we cook rice both in a rice cooker and in a pot. my mum prefers cooking with the charcoal coz for her, rice tastes much better. she's an oldwoman who can cook really well but prefers the old way. rice cooker is surely a great help. just don't forget to check that you pressed the lever down so your rice will be cooked and that you have plugged it, not the other electrical appliance. also, don't leave it plugged the whole day coz the bottom will get burned and will be really hard by the time you get home at night and nobody's left in the house.

Hi, I really don't know how to cook rice without a rice cooker! It's so convenient with a rice cooker - just put rice and water and let it cook. If I have to cook rice on a stove, I'm totally lost!
• India
23 Nov 09
hi lazeebee, oh, how nice yaar, like the same you cook with rice cooker, same as like normal cooker, but in normal cooker it gives whistles, then you should count. and off the cooker, when you addict to the rice cooker it is little difficult to cook in normal cooker and you will get bored with that. anyway, thankyou for your response, have a nice day.

Hi neelima I will cook in the normal cooker only. Though i have one rice cooker, it is not up to the standard. The moment i put it on the stove, immediately the whistle starts sound even before the rice starts to boil.

My rice cooker is my buddy :) it just does whole rice cooking job itself without even bothering me or without making any mess. It saves my time, i can do other stuff in the mean time, no need to watch out if rice is doing ok or not, it switched off itself, no worries, no bothering. its just perfect. I love it :)

I prefer cooking in the normal cooker/stove but I prefer more cooking rice using firewood. In the past, people really cooked their food using firewood and I noticed that the food is more tasty, I also don't know why. But if you are leaving in the city/urban places, I think the best way to cook rice is to use a rice cooker. The first reason for it is because it is safe. One can save time because while cooking the rice, you can still do other things such as taking a bath and preparing for work, and then by the time you are ready to eat, you can still eat the rice as if its newly cook because the rice cooker will keep it warm. I think it all depends on your lifestyle and taste whether what is the best way you can cook rice.

Regularly, I use a rice cooker to cook the rice. The thing is you do not have to monitor the cooking if you use a rice cooker as compared to using a stove. So its better to cook using the rice cooker and definitely you can do other things while the rice is being cooked.
• India
23 Nov 09
hi jpso, yeah, you're right, in the morning times, every should make fast, breakfast and lunch also, so, i keep rice in the rice cooker and remain things i make in stove. it will be a big help for me. thankyou for your response, have a nice day.

Well, when I was younger I used to cook rice using some stove and looking at it in a period of time because it might get toast. Using a rice cooker is really convenient because you know you won't burn the rice because it's such a waste when it happens. But still I missed the good old days, let's just not forget the traditional way of cooking it so that when we will be stranded on an island or going camping on the mountains at least we know how to do it without the use of a rice cooker. Cheers!

In my humble opinion, i think rice cooker is one of the best invention in century. It is a big essential in a Asian household, rice is a staple food for most of the asian countries. Thank god we dont have to use the conventional rice cooking. I always burned the rice everytime i cook it in a stove. Everytime there's a brownout i have no choice but to cook it manually. It seems there is a technique in cooking rice in a stove. I still have to learn that but for now i stick with my rice cooker.

hi stephon, yeah, even sometime i am lazy to off the cooker when i keep on the stove, i have beg my son to off the cooker, when i got the rice cooker i was little tension free. it will automatically switched off. oh, thankyou for your response, have a nice day.

I always have cooked rice with a pot. Mainly because I don't have a rice cooker. I don't think I need one as I don't eat rice that often and is pretty easy to cook the traditional way.

I only know how to cook rice with a rice cooker, so it is the only way to use. I like using the fussy logic rice cooker. It is clever and smart. Softer or harder can be adjusted. Timer is there, too. Congee is fine and steaming is good, too. It usually takes 45 minutes for cooking 3 bowls of rice and the rice cooked is more delicious than using the traditional rice cooker. I like eating rice, so the cooker is an important electric appliance at home.
