Link: http://illlaaa.blogspot.com/2008/02/kohinoor-belongs-to-india.html kohinoor is studded in one of the crowns of the british queen . not only that diamond there are many other precious things that the british has taken away from India.after the independence our govt did not bother to take those things back.may be it thought they are better left in the hands of british as they r safe n secure there.if at all they r in india they might have been stolen by this time and the indian police would have never recovered it. but atleast Indian govt should have made an attempt to get it back.

historically speaking the koh-i-noor was gifted to queen victoria by maharaja duleep singh (son of maharaja ranjit singh). even though he was forced to do that, it will ultimately be considered to have been gifted to the queen. so there is not much that can be done in getting it back. moreover all such things are now a part of history and are of historical importance only...no matter where they are, they will be recounted for the history they carry rather than their economic values.

Yes, the Kohinoor was taken away from India by the british post independence, just like many other gems and artifacts that the former colonial rules took away as their own when the left the country they had colonized. Many nations have made successful and unsuccessful bids to bring back their national treasures which were kept in famous museums in first world countries. I don’t think Indian govt has the financial means or the intentions to ever try and bring back those treasures…and guarding them is certainly a big problem…just see how the Nobel medallions of Tagore were stolen never to be recovered again!
