Has anyone here had shingles and if so, what was it like? I think I'm experiencing another flare-up, but this time they are really itchy as well as being sore. Are there any at-home or over-the-counter remedies to calm the irritation?

Omg, that was one of my nighmares. I've never had the chickenpox at all and I kept being told "if you get it when you are an adult, the odds are good that it will do serious damage." Ended up getting the vaccine against it before getting pregnant most recently. As far as relief from the itch goes, shouldn't a topical anesthetic work? like the kind found in first aid creams? Or hydrocortisone might work well too since it seems to relieve almost every other sort of itchyness.

My son had shingles. We weren't able to find much that helped calm the pain or the itch. Benedryl pills helped a little and good old tylenol eased the pain some. I hope you feel better soon.

Benedryl, tylenol and rest. Don't take aspirin, pepto, or anything with sylicates.
