Seriously? Aren't we taking this just a little too far?

I heard on the news tonight that Gwen Stefani and Jon Bon Jovi are suing a bar in Minneapolis because the bar played songs that they didn't have permission to play. One bar? In the whole United States, there is only ONE bar that has a jukebox with songs on it for which they didn't receive express written consent from the record label????? Or that has an open mic night where patrons can get up and sing anything they very well please? Give me a break. I didn't really need another reason to despise Gwen Stefani... I didn't have any respect for her to lose. But it makes me a little sad about Bon Jovi. I had always thought he was a man of reasonable intelligence and respectability. And the way the article I found makes it sound, it's them filing the suit, not their labels. What do you think? Are they within their rights to sue the bar? Or are they going totally overboard?

I always thought, whenyou buy the Jukebox, you have the right to play whats on there. Even when songs are updated, and the playlist is updated, I assumed under Copyright Law, you have the right to play it.

We all know the music industry is taking a beat down...but this extreme? Then again, the thing to remember is that with the internet, everyone reports "Their own" version of the news. So who;s to say that that is even true...

Really? I guess when you have tons of money you can go around and sue people for stupid stuff. I'm not sure about the copywrite laws but if you are supposed to have consent and you don't it really does matter. I guess they will file the suit under "Rock Star Identity Theft" since all those drunk karaoke singers are just wanna bees?
