Nowadays the growth of laptop users (especially in Asia) has been increasing excessively. One of the reasons people prefer laptop to desktop is the efficiency and portability. You can carry your device anywhere therefor making you easier to operate it. What I wanna know is what do you think is the best laptop brand?? I use Acer because in my country it's considered cheap compared to HP Compaq, Toshiba ,Sony or Dell laptops with the same specification. What do you think? And why do you say it's better than other brands?

Try ASUS. Its not a well known brand so it is conciderably cheaper, but they run well and are durable.

ASUS is not very well known in my country, its hard to find the vendors that sell the brand. How do you compare it to the other brands?

If it's motherboard you're talking about, yes I know ASUS has good quality. Until today I still find many ASUS motherboards displayed in computer exhibitions and is a first choice mobo for desktop computers, but for Asus computers it isn't as popular, at least in my country it isn't.

I , too, recommend ASUS. Im a little suprise that ASUS is not well-known in America. My friends are all consider ASUS as the symbol of quality and durability. Before ASUS was split into there in 2008, this brand coming from Taiwan was once the biggest motherboard seller in the planet.

Hello mate :D I use Acer too. The old series, Aspire 5580 Series I think. If you ask the "best" brand, it can't be answered easily actually. Many new brands of laptop are available currently (like Advan, Byon, Gateway, etc) and all of them offer the same capabilities, similar price, and post-sales services. Well, if brand is really matter then I suggest to pick the well-known brand instead of new brand. Fujitsu is the best I think. The design is very sleek and elegant but it cost way much more than other brand for same capabilities. Acer might be the wise choice as they have many service point in Indonesia and the price is quite reasonable (just bought the AOP Slim for $330 only). I'm not suggesting Dell laptops, the service center is quite few. My friend have a Dell laptop, it is broken and he sent it to the main service center in Jakarta, and it tooks 8 months for the repairer just to notify that the graphic adapter is broken! And after 16 months, still no news about the laptop, whether it will be repaired or not. Toshiba, Sony, and HP are good also, but they way more expensive than Acer.

In fact, yes I am :) Well, if you don't really care about quickness and flexibility then there will be no problem for waiting so long upon service or claiming warranty for your product. I have tried my friend's fujitsu, and yeah, it has different touch with any other brand. Really elegant, and so with Dell. But I won't bother buying any of those, too expensive and again, lack of service center

Hello mate:D are you from Indonesia?cause you seem to know a lot about the country. Thanx for the information. It's no doubt that one of the reasons that Dell, Fujitsu and other good brands out there aren't so well selled in Indonesia is because of the service center. I don't think they provide more service centers than brands like acer, toshiba, hp, etc.

I don't know exactly what the best brand is or whether there is a best brand! However, I'm more inclined to stick with what I know and I am currently using a Dell pc and I'm pretty happy with this manufacturer! I'm not too keen on laptops though despite them being very convenient. I prefer desktops as they have a lot of upgrade potential but with a laptop you are limited in what you can do in terms of upgrades. I think that a brand is only as good as the support that is provided when your laptop is under warranty. I think that Dell have an excellent customer service record and they have been very helpful to me in the past. Andrew

Thanx for your response andrew. Dell IS a good brand, but in my country Dell users are a minority, I don't exactly know the reason but I think it's because the customer service is also minimum here in Indonesia. I agree with you that desktops are more upgrade potential, I am currently using one myself.

The best brands are surely the ones on the top like sony, IBM, compaq etc.Well no brand is best and no is worse. They have pretty much competitive products but in matters of laptop I would pick sony vaio for fashion, accer for performance and dell for both.

I find for me its a toss up between compaq and Dell. My reasoning, its fairly simple. I've had two compaqs and two dells with a Sony in the middle. Both my compaqs lasted me over four years before they were just unrepairable. In fact, only one ended up that way. The second... and my first... still works, but I wasn't able to get a power cord for it. So my sister decided to give it to her daughter. My second finally ran out of memory and I was unable to successfully restore it. Eventually It was stolen. I never did find out by who. But unless they had all new parts for it it wouldn have done them any good. I had my Sony for about four years as well. However, it had a fulty battery and was a fire hazard. I couldn't run it for more then a few minutes before it got to hot to use. My first Dell was well bulit, and worked like a dream. It eventually became slow despite all the cleaning I did to it. I also wore out the keyboard because I tend to be a very fast typist, and being that I am blind a majority of my usage is nothing but repeated keystrokes. After a time that would ware anything down. I still have it and am trying to deside if its worth the repair. Now last but not least, I'm using a Dell which I'm still paying for. I've had it for a few months now, and it has well bulit-in support. Works really well, and everything works like a dream. I wish it had a camera though... but bared that, its a good unit. and with luck it should easily last me a good four years. To be quite honest the one thing I like about dell is it went four years before needing repair. And had the keyboard not broken down to where typing became difficult... I'd still be using it flaws and all.

Wow that's a lot of laptops you used. I haven't used Dell or Sony laptops long enough to review about them, but thanx to you I have new insights about them now. What about the pricing? which of the three is the relatively cheapest one?
