PS3 Guitar Controller Doesn't Work for PS2 Games

I'm new to the world of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but I've recently gotten into them, I felt so completely moronic when I bought the Guitar Hero World Tour PS2 game thinking it would work with a PS3 Guitar controller...so stupid, please tell me there are other people out there who might have done the same thing...being new to the whole craze that is Guitar Hero? Let me know I'm not alone in this :) It'll make me feel so much better.
