Leapfrog-Leappad - advantages and disadvantage....opinions needed

I would like to seek help from you fellow mylotters... Recently, I saw this leappad that I want to buy for my son on sale...I really wanted it for him, but I'm kinda short on budget. Is it worth the sacrifice? Do you have an idea on the advantage and disadvantage of this toy? whether it is mentally(effect to kids) or materially (system and materials of the toy)... any opinion will be highly appreciated.. since it'll help me decide in return...Thanks in advance... By the way, below picture is the exact item I want to get for my son...
