There are many things you need to consider when choosing this pet. Here are some of the questions you will need to be able to answer before I can help with any suggestions. 1) I know you stated you live in a house but do you rent or own? 2) If you rent are there any restictions on having a dog (ie size)? 3) Is the backyard fenced in or open? If open how much land? 4) Do you want this to be a house pet/lap dog? 5) Do you want a large dog or small dog? Short hair or long? 6) How much activity (ie walks, puppy park time) can you devote to the dog? I love my papillion. She is a small dog, that stays inside. We do not have a fenced yard so therefore I had to spend quite the time with her to come on command when she is off leash in the yard. Her activity level is based on family activity. She does not require long walks or alot of play time even though she is only 1 1/2 yrs old. To get some good ideas on grooming requirements/activity levels etc check out the website puppyfind.com. There you can see pictures of different puppies and may find one that catches your eye. Also check with your local shelter or rescue they may have the perfect pet for you also.

I currently have a golden retriever (yellow lab) and although he is very sweet, he is really a handful. He weighs about 80 pounds and is only 2 years old, so when he plays he is very tough to calm down. Of course he plays most of the time. I always had Maltese terriers in the past and really like that breed better because they are house dogs and stay much gentler in the house with me even though they are good watch dogs. You just need to keep in mind that big dogs need more room to run and play than smaller ones and they eat a lot more too. Also think about whether you are able to handle their size and strength when taking them to a vet or groomer. It all comes down to personal preference and environmental issues.

Hello! I would effeminately suggest you to buy Labrador!!!I have a Labrador girl at home and she's so sweet!!! I have heard that all or at least the most of them are really friendly and sweet so you won't have problems if you have small children! They like to play a lot. My dog is already 6 years old but still she acts like a small baby:) not in a way that she doesn't follow my rules or tasks but she's so sweet... but taking a dog, please, don't forget that dog need a society!!! dog will always need people around him. and so many people make their home pets unhappy just leaving them alone for a log time...dog will be your friend, my dog is my best friend!!! I know that I can trust her, she will always fight for me if something would happen and I would always stand for her...another thing to remember - you will have to take your dog out...you can be lucky if you have a private house! I have an apartment and I go for a walk with my dog 4xper day...sorry, I am lying, my dog goes to work in the mornings, she's working as a border guard dog...:) so here you see one more puss why to take a Labrador - it will be easy to teach him!!! don't take small dos, it will just wee everywhere and small dogs are really hard to teach to behave... so good look!!!!If I would have to choose again, I would definitely go fora Labrador!!!
