Language death and language loss

Everyone is using language to convey messages but it is undeniable that some languages are dying because the new generation are no longer practicing their own mother tongue language. I feel this because I am not as fluent as my mother or my late grandmother when it comes to speaking the language...I understand certain words but most of the time I will go totally blank? So what do you think...?
