42 and universe

How is 42 the answer to the ultimate question?
If I remember correctly, in my high school, my physics teacher told me that the ratio of the diameter of the known universe to that of the smallest particle known to us is of the order of 10 to the power 42.
Does this has something to do with the answer to the ultimate question?

If it does, it doesn't seem particularly helpful.
Is this the answer one would give to a child asking the same question?
I think not.
