Markups on veteranary services and products contributing to pets getting homes

Hello, I think this subject needs discussion. Anyone who is passionate about their animals and animal welfare in general may have one time or another come across difficult decision in accordance with their care and the finances that go along with it. I have 3 rescues, cats, one in which came to me with some health problems. Thousands of dollars, overtime at work and credit cards have been used to take care of my animals. I am not griping that I have had to take care of them like this but that the cost should not have been so great. There are not even payment plans for pet owners even if they do have a large bill. Do you think it is right that the value of our pets lives is treated as a by weight or property basis? Almost all veteranary services have markups that are close to 300%. Why of all institutions that are supposed to be advocating our animals health and rescue do animal hospitals charge so much? Do they not realize that this is a discouragement for alot of people who are considering owning pets? There are too many cats and dogs who need homes and not enough people that want to entertain rescue. There are enough roadblocks for these poor creatures that we should not have to worry about the Veterenary institutions being on our side. Some people have been forced to euthanise or give up their pets because under the ridiculous financial weight of todays veteranary care. Please, if anyone else feels this way please respond. I am going completely advocacy on this, looking into laws, starting petitions or groups. This problem must be solved!

Hi iynkshadow I too feel the same thing. My children are so kind hearted persons that whenever they happen to see any animal in distress, they immediately bring them home and call the vet, who in turn charge heavily. We have some animals and could not save some others. But the charges will run to some four digits INR. May be that is the reason, no body is coming forward to adopt any pets.
