And the astrologer says...

I came across this funny story, thought I'd share it with you all.
After a lot of prayers, a lady finally gave birth to a baby boy, but before that, she'd swallowed ample scented ash that the different astrologers had given her. She however, developed faith on the last astrologer she visited before conceiving and giving birth.
This astrologer himself was surprised that he could perform such a miracle and as the lady started spreading good news about his abilities, he started believing he was the chosen one.
People brought their children to him, especially boys, to know whether these kids had any future, after all, unemployment was high.
The first lady brought her son - Panditji (this is Indian context), my 5 year old son keeps on opening his shirt everytime he sees some girls, as if he is some Gandhi, or Salman Khan. I am ok with him becoming Salman Khan, but Gandhiji didnt have a proper house. I cant live in that. So please do something that will make him rich like Salman Khan.
The astrologer gave a benevolent smile, and said well, I understand your plight. Here is some vibhuti (scented ash), please give your son everyday and when it gets over, come again, I will give you some more. His mindset will change.
Fast forward 30 odd years, the lady went around telling everybody that this astrologer was a Mahatma. Why? Well, her son still opened his chest like Salman Khan, but he also became a politician - an actor and a politician. He fasted like Gandhi, and acted like Salman Khan. What if the several kilos of vibhuti made him look ashen - he was destined to earn more than Salman Khan.
I am dying to know the address of this astrologer. Do you believe in this type of astrology? Have you come across something like this? What are your views?

Well vandana, even though I have also visited so many astrologers, I did not get very good advice, but at the same time I must hasten to add, that some of the troubles which would have become big, just blew away. You go to the astrologers or the swamijis only when we have some trouble/problems. So when you get even a straw, you tend to cling to it in some belief, hoping it will bring good luck.
So let us all not make fun of Astrology, there is something to it. Even the great Jayalalitha, the ex C.M. of Tamilnadu changed her name due to numerology.
So when such a big person believes in this kind of mumbo jumbo, who are what are we.

One more thing Vandana, the joke on the man who fasted for Telengana is quite bad. Just think a few decades ago, one more Telugu fasted for seperating Andhra from Madras Presidency. What would have happened, if the Tamils have refused to give Andhra as a seperate State, and make problems like the rest of Andhra is doing against Telengana.

Hello Rameshkumaar, first and foremost, I did not initiate the joke. :) Second thing, this time it is not the majority that is seeking such separation, it is a minority that wants such separation. Third thing, it is likely to break the state into 3 to 5 pieces because Telangana is the central part of the state. Fourth it is against the mandate of people here. They had just 13 MLA's! Hardly enough to matter on any issue in our assembly. Unlike this, Potti Sriramulu had unanimous support. And as far as Gandhiji was concerned he was not hospitalized, and he did not get the required medical attention under the eyes of so many doctors. Gandhiji's was a satyagraha, this is my agraha. Difference hai. :) Oh! Byt this shouldnt concern you, you've paid your taxes, the amount will be used to hold elections again and again till this man succeeds in breaking the state. After all, there will be some monies that he will get. :)

Let me state that I odnt believe in Astrology because I dont believe that our fate is written or determined by the stars .I think that whatever we become is as a reult of our actions, or totally random -we might just be in the right place at the right time or determined by God who guides our lives. The control of our lives by God is not written anywhere ,I think only he knows and can change it ,no astrologer

Here I beg to differ. I do think that we are all chemical compositions. In chemistry, when some conditions are changed, the composition of chemicals changes. I think we and all those stars and all are very intricately linked. So it may be possible to calculate somethings but precision will always be a suspect. However, I dont believe astrologer of any religion or cult has as of now, mastered that. So it is truly waste of time going to them! However, astrologers tend to indicate something positive. That can give a lot of hope when it is needed. So I do visit astrologers, and I do try to be positive based on the way they consoled me. Do I believe them? Of course not. But for the moment when I am in crisis, I try to put faith in their words. :)

I had some skin problem. I went to a self proclaiming astrologer (He himself says that he is the astrologer), not for prediction but for Sai Bhajan. He saw my hand and gave some vibhuthi and said baba asked him to give vibhuthi to me to apply. I applied for three days. My skin problem aggravated like anything. My husband scolded me heavily and I stopped applying it. I was eagerly waiting for my husband's transfer from Hyderabad to our place. This man said 'right now your husband is seeing a house with coconut tree and green gate, he is climbing the stairs now to see the terrace room, he will take this house for rent and after two months he will get his transfer.' When my husband called up after half-an-hour, he said he never went out of his sister's house from morning he never saw any house for rent and that he cannot get transfer so soon. Again I had good heavy dose from him. I stopped going for Bhajans then onwards.

Now that is what I call experience! LOL. I dont know why people are ever ready to believe that they have sinned more and the person opposite has sinned less. That is the goodness in our nature I guess. If we've not sinned enough, why would god punish us? :) Simple logic. :) I am glad that your husband is not the type who runs after these vibhuti distributing astrologers. :) LOL. Thanks for sharing. You had me in splits. LOL.

This is a nice joke vandana. But I do believe there is something in astrology. Our ancient Indian astrologers were really very good. No astrologer of the present days can predict things to 100% accuracy.
Then why should we bother about it? Well, we can use it as a reference book, or guide. Suppose if you are running 7 and half years Saturn period then at this period you can be more careful while driving, you may not take any risks in business. When you are in a good period you can go for some offensive game in your attempts.
Astrology is a guide and not a text book.

Hi vijayanths, I believe in probabilities. I am extremely realistic. :( That does not mean I dont ask astrologers. I do. When I feel low, I need those soothsayers. We dont have as many psychiatrists out here. Therefore, I cant lie on any couch and pour out my woes. But when I talk to these so called astrologers I get my quota of "hope". :) Think of it like this, I dont think god gave anybody anything extra. If the rich man has monies, he also has his own problems. Lady Di had problems, Prince Charles went thru some agonies of his own. Brittany Spears had everything going for her, but she has her own problems. And so did Michael Jackson, and Elvis. So it is like problems are there at every stage. We just need to overcome them with our effort and intellect. When we feel we are about to give up, we can do with some injections of hope. Friends we know are saying to calm us. So friends words or relatives' words dont really have that kind of effect as those of a stranger. I must have asked help more than 10 times, I think only once the solution came anywhere close to what I asked. That is a bad probability! That is something I could have arrived at myself! But having faith in god is much better. It keeps us full of hope. :) By the way, let the astrologer agree that if what he says does not materialize then I can sue him. :) Let him give those guarantees. It doesnt happen. He will try to point some unforeseen changes in constellation that changed the course of his predictions. While I agree there has to be some calculation that links the entire happenings in the universe, I doubt if any man is or was smart enough to have mastered it. Thanks for sharing. :)

though astrologers seen some facts but still we cannot believe it 100%...we have to know first the integity of the astrologer.

Hi beabenitez, it is not a first hand one, it was a joke I recd. in mail and I modified it slightly so that nobody would be hurt. :) But I kind of find it amusing how we start believing that others have more power than us, others are less of sinners than us. Thanks a lot for responding. I really dont know how I missed answering you in the first place. Longer posts I guess. :) Have a nice day. :)

Hi silverdream, I dont know if you meant it seriously or you were kidding. :) Rare combo that kid isn't implies that all politicians are actors. If you meant it like that, I am really glad you came here. I enjoy such witty remarks. :) But even otherwise, thanks for coming. :)
