I actually do know some that treats their car like that. But in his defense its like a donor car that is only used as a back up when the other cars (for any reason) does not work. Its a 90's Acura integra, so it will definitely help him out in a pinch. Its a good idea if you ask me. A back up car in case a friend needs to borrow a car, or if your main driver need a new tranny.
