I posted under the heading "I can't believe it" a few days ago about how a vet refused to euthanize an older cat that couldn't walk or stand and was barely eating, because she was still eating. She had no control over her bowels either. A vet that I used several years ago ended up doing the procedure and said it was the right thing to do. At that point, she had completely quit eating or drinking the night before. And she didn't even want to be touched. The reason I am posting an update is because I recieved a card from the vet that did the procedure. 16 staff members signed it. I thought that was a lovely thing to do. And though they may be a more expensive facility, if they are willing to go above and beyond, then it's worth the extra expense to use them. Their is one problem. This facility has 2 other offices and about 7 vets that rotate. There are two of the vets that I don't want any where near my pets. I don't know their names. So I've got to try to figure that out so that if need be, I can find one of the vets I do like at one of the rotation clinics. But if your vet sent a lovely card and so many cared to sign it, wouldn't it mean a lot to you?

I don't get it. What is the purpose of the vet sending you the card for you to sign in the first place/ is it to gain your support or something? Anyway, I think all animals that are suffering should be put down. We are only being kind to them (the animals) by ending their misery. If the animal is refusing to eat I suspect it realises it is already meeting its maker so why try to prolong its misery?

Sweetie, let me try that again as you hadn't read the whole story from the initial posting. I called the vet we have been using most recently. He was the one that refused to do the procedure. I called a vet we used to use but had stop using because they had gotten so expensive and they have several doctors that rotate. Two of the doctors there I do not like. One because of a procedure he had done on the same cat mentioned. I was very unhappy with his work! However, there are a few doctors in that clinic that I do like. So I called one of them to ask about having Pumpkin euthanized. He agreed with what I told him of the issues and said he would do it. When we got home that night the cat had completely stopped eating or drinking. She was so uncomfortable that she didn't want to be touched and nipped at us. So we took her to the vet and he agreed that this was what was best for her. He gave her a sedative and then gave her the final shot. He was very compassionate and understanding. Yesterday I got a sympathy card from them. 16 staff members signed the card. I thought it was very sweet of them to send it, even more so that so many cared to sign it. You do have to sign a form when you take a pet to be euthanized. Just like when you and I go to the doctor we have to sign forms agreeing to procedures. But it was the fact that they did send the card and the way we and our pet was treated that has made me think, okay, they charge way too much, but it's worth it if they go the extra mile. Not all clinics give a sedative prior. I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. However, I do need to call this clinic, as I said, because I don't want two of the vets there anywhere near my pets. I've got to find out their names in order to avoid them. They have 2 other clinics in which the doctors rotate. And I would rather drive farther for the doctors I like than risk dealing with those I don't like.

Oh wow, this is much clearer now and they actually send a card with all the staff's signatures? Is it a small clinic or a big one? because if they have a big clinic, the logistics would be a nightmare sending out all those cards. Anyway, yes I do think this was a good move by them both at a personal level as well as at a business level as they make their customers feel special. Thanks for clearing it up! :)

Yes, and my expensive vets do that, my less expensive vets don't, but they are a LOT less expensive...
