How do you improve your listening ability of foreign language?

If you want to learn a forign you can understand the word. But it is not easy to improve the ability of listening. Of couse someone like to listen and do not care for writing. My friend is a example, he can understand what foreigner say. He often play games and can understand the foreign language. How do you improve your listening ability?

Listening to song, watching movie with "that language" subtitle. It really works for me. Just try to listen slow song and try to watch documentary movie that have "that language that you study" subtitle(National Geography)

Listen to songs! If you can't really hear what the singer say then listen to it with lyrics. Slowly but surely it will improve your listening skills. I learn Japanese and Korean right now and listening to songs really helped me a lot. I still have some difficulties in Korean but for Japanese, now I can pinpoint what exactly they say.
