Though I am having the licensed version of windows xp home edition, I have installed only pirtated version of windows xp pro in my system. As the OS is not genuine, I am not able to update the OS and I have disabled the automatic updates. I am trying to purchase the original version of xp pro, for a looong time..But still I am not able to do so and now they have even released windows 7 after xp pro..Do you have the original version of the OS? Have you ever installed the pirated OS?

Yes! I have licensed OS, it licensed under GNU-GPL license and the OS is called "Linux" :) Other OS I have is window XP Pro SP2, I installed it via copied CD and I use license key from my campus as they have student license available to use for free. And yes, I have tried to install pirated OS from Windows 98 to Windows Vista, but I only install them for learning purpose, no less no more.

Though I am having the licensed version of windows vista and windows xp home edition, I have installed the windows xp professional ,which is pirated one. As I am not familiar with home edition, I am not using that one and vista is not user friendly as like professional. Now I have decided to install the home edition so that I can apply the latest updates.Without the updates, it is much hard to work with them and the system is subjected to virus attack very often. Then I need to format the system very ofter. Because of this, I am now looking for the original version of the operating system. Thanks for your response to this discussion.

I don't have any idea about the windows 7. I think you can share the experience with this OS with us so that we can also give it a try..NOw I am about to install the windows xp home edition in my system when I am about to format the system in future. As I have the license for the home edition, there will not be any problem in updating the operating systems. With the pirated version, I am not able to apply the updates .If I do so, my desktop settings will be altered. And also, I have to format the system very often because of security issues. Thanks for your response to this discussion.

I have 2 computers. 1 laptop and 1 PC On the Laptop I have original Windows Vista Home Basic which came with the laptop when I bought it On my PC a year before I had a pirated version of Windows XP home which I didn't knew for 2 years as I didn't had internet at that time. But now I have purchased an original windows XP pro and I really like it.. The best are the security updates which always keep me up to the world's security. I say you should also purchase an original OS (Your wish whether it is XP, Vista or 7) also remember that your hardware must also work with the OS you choose. Have a great day

Really I am in the wish of purchasing the original version for a long time. But my financial position is not allowing me to purchase.Though I don't like to involve in any illegal activity, I have been forced to do so..But I have the original version of vista and windows xp home edition.Getting the security updates are the major issues in the pirated version. If we update all , then we are not able to customize our desktops and also we are getting the warning message.Though I have the original version of home edition, I have not installed it as I don't have any experience with this. Now I have decided to install the home edition and give it a try.It is better than struggling with the pirated version. Thanks for your response to this discussion.

Technology is moving to fast. It is quite difficult to cope with every technological changes. If we observe Microsoft then it will be aparant that they are releasing OS too fast after release of XP. You have not got much time to like any single OS overtime. XP then Vista then Win 7 then next what and when? No one Know. Let come with pricing all the prices are premium. Average income people having the daydream to have it. I suggest it will be beneficial for all of us if Microsoft have the decision to review their products prices for all level income people.

Yes..The cost is the major factor for the users to look after the pirated versions of the operating systems. I am in the try of purchasing xp professional edition, for a long time, though I have the licensed version of vista and home edition. But I don't like to work with vista, I reinstalled it with xp prof, pirated version. Also I don't know the installation procedure of xp home edition also.Very soon, I should learn and install the home edition. With the pirated version of the operating systems, we are not able to update the system and we have to keep the automatic updates OFF always. Otherwise, our desktop will become black and we can not customize it.Also we need to format the system very ofter because of the vulnerabilities. Many of the countries have raised the request to Microsoft to lower the price of their OS. But they are not considering. It seems they are the cause to make us to use the pirated OS.Thanks for your response to this discussion.

Hi Wordlinx, I got my brand new laptop in the mail last week and it came with Window's 7 so yes my Operation System is licensed and totally legit. I actually like Window's 7 but it's not all that different from Window's Vista which I've also used. The Operation System I used for the longest time was Window's XP and I never had any problems with it, I liked it. I will never install a pirated OS for the pure fact that I want to be able to receive the updates they provide and hopefully never have any problems with it. I believe you can have problems with your computer if you have a non licensed version of an OS, I would feel guilty as well to be perfectly honest if I had one that wasn't actually a legal copy.

I had windows vista in my laptop which was pre installed . But as I did not like to work with the vista, I uninstalled it and installed the windows xp professional.I think this is the only OS, accepted by all of the computer users. BUt as I installed the pirated version, I am not able to aply the latest updates to my system and hence my system is more vulnerable to the threats.Because of this , I have to reformat the system very ofter. Now I have decided to install the windows xp home edition, for which I have the license and give it s try .Really I feel of guilty for having the illegal copy of operating system..I think, I will get rid of the feel, if I install the home edition. Thanks for your response to this discussion.

Yes..Now they are concentrating only on windows 7 and windows vista..Windows vista is not user friendly and I can not work with it.I tried it once for some days and the reinstalled the original version, which was preinstalled with the laptop, when we bought it new.But I have the original version of windows xp home edition. As I don't have any experience with this operating system, I have not installed it so far. But I feel it is better to install and give it a try, than struggling with the pirated version of operating system. We are not able to update the system,Hence our system is more vulnerable to threats. Also the cost of the OS is little more and all can not purchase it..Thanks for your response to this discussion.

Yes, I do right now, but it's Vista, and I don't like it at all. I've had pirated systems before, though. Maybe people wouldn't help themselves to freebie operating systems if the price of them was more reasonable. If I want to get Windows 7 instead of this horrible system my computer came with, it will cost me $150. I've had my computer less than six months, and I don't feel like I should have to pay that much in order to get an OS that really works the way it's supposed to.

As the cost of the original operating system is little high, I am not able to buy it. Also I don't like to work with windows vista as it is not user friendly OS.I tried to work with the vista and found it very hard to work. I don't have any idea about the home edition. For vista and home edition, I have the license and CD which are supplied by the manufacturers. As I liked the windows xp professional much, I installed the pirated version and am working with this for a long time. But with the pirated version, I am not able to apply the update files and hence more vulnerabilities. I am going to install the home edition very soon to avoid this issue. At least after installing the home edition, I hope the need for formatting the system will not be there. Thanks for your response to this discussion.

As much as possible, I would really like to install the original OS to our computers as I don't have to worry about inconsistencies with the system. I am not really good when it comes to computers so I guess those who really do know how to get around systems and programs can go along with operating systems that aren't really licensed. We just XP operating systems, Home on the laptop and Pro on our desktop.. hmmm, have to fix the desktop soon.. (-_- )

As a trial attempt I have decided to install the windows wp home edition in one of my systems and I have the manufacturers CD and key for home edition. But as I don't have any experience with the home edition, so far, used to avoid the installation of home edition. As I happened to format the unlicensed version very often,I tired of it. I am not able to get the updates. Even if I try to get the updates, then the " The genuine advantage windows validation" update is removing some dll files from the system and hence I am not able to set any desktop back ground, except the black screen and also the warning messages.Highly irritating me.If the cost of the original version is little less so that all can make purchase of the original oerating system, then it will not be an issue. But the cost is much high..It should be little more than the cost of some anti virus software. Thanks for your response to this discussion.

hi , I feel that though we have original OS all the other softwares installed in the system should also be original. I hope you understand, for example if you want to install office in your original OS system it should be genuine too. This is the problem which we face most. After installing Window 7 original from site i had to use MS-Office not original version which caused me problems while updating. I think microsoft product are costly to purchase and everything should be genuine

As you have mentioned , that the cost of the original version of the operating system is too more and hence some of the users are not able to purchase them. As we are installing the pirated version, we are not able to obtain the latest updates from the Microsoft and our systems is more vulnerable to the internet threats. Though I have the original version of windows xp home edition and windows vista, I did not install them.First of all I don't like windows vista, which is not user friendly in my view.We need to respond to various windows while working, torturing us too much. On the other hand, I don't have any working experience with the home edition. Now I have decided to install the original version of home edition in one of my systems. If I found that working with home edition is easy, then I will Install it in the other systems also. Because I have tired of formatting the three systems alternatively too much. In order to get the latest updates, I want to install the original..Thanks for your response to this discussion.

Yes I have also faced this ..I am not able to even play with the media player once with the pirated version. While online, if we try to play, it is asking to some validations and here we are failing...For your kind information, if you wish to add something more to your response, then you can hit on the 'add comment" button , which is available at the bottom of your response and can add what you want to say, instead of hitting on the 'respond to this discussion' again. Thanks for the care.

as for as india is concerned pirated os is most prominent. i hv only pirated version of xp at my home. but i hv original windows for vista in my laptop. it is built in and cant be installed in any other pc or laptop. if you are working then you request your company's sys admin to give you the source for it. usually they wont give.but try..if you are a student you can request you school or college sys admin. maintain some relations with them so that you can benefit by this way. i got one or two microsoft's products from my coll like this. but dont feel bad for having pirated versions. disadvantages are you can get IE 8 or more to be as your broswer cant upgrade windows media player 11 or above.

I am having CD and license keys for windows vista and for windows home edition.I don't like to work with the system installed with vista and it is not user friendly, in my view as like the professional edition. Also so far I have not worked with the home edition. That's why I installed the pirated version of profession. But as the OS is pirated one, I am not able to get the latest updates and if I update, I am not able to customize the desktop settings. They are displaying the warning messages all the times. As the cost involved is little more for me to purchase the original version of xp pro, I am suffering a lot with the pirated version. Now I have decided to install the home edition and give it a try. The points you have mentioned are the key points to have smooth relationship with the others, though we don't have intention to get anything from them.Really great. Thanks for spending your time to this discussion.

I used to have a non legit version of windows xp and it wasnt really too hard too upkeep espeially with all the updates I haf to get. I dont really think there was any benefit to using it because I did have to spend some time circumventing these updates, and I doubt I saved enough money to make it worth while.

If we consider only the cost, then it is really worth installing the pirated version. But we are not able to get the latest updates from the manufacturers and our systems are more vulnerable to the various threats available in the internet. If our system is not connected to the internet, then there will not be any problem with the pirated version and they will work fine.As we are much active in the online sites, the treats available are numerous and hence our system need to be updated everyday. That's why they are updating the operating system very often. But the cost of the operating system is much more which makes the users to stay away from purchasing them, even if we have the intention of making purchase. If they reduce the cost,it will he helpful to the users like me.Now I have decided to install the original version of windows xp home edition,But I don't know whether working with it will be easy as like in professional edition.I hope so .But I will never prefer to work with vista as it is not user friendly..Thanks for your response to this discussion.

As we are not able to get the latest updates if ours is pirated one, the systems are vulnerable to various internet threats.Only because of this I wish to buy the original version. But as the cost of the original operating system is little more, I am not able to purchase it.But I have the licensed version of windows xp home edition. As I have not worked with this operating system earlier,I hesitated to install it.Now I have decided to install the home edition in the next formatting. I have tired of formatting very ofter, the existing operating system as I am not able to get the updates. Thanks for your response to this discussion.Have a nice day.

nope I have the original vista xp pro and 7 on my 3 pc's, in my opinion the cost of operating systems is such that they are not that expensive to upgrade too. Plus if you get the pirated copy as you say you cannot upgrade so it leaves your computer more vunerable to all the back door's which are within an un updated operating system.

As the cost to be paid for the original version is more, some of the users are forced to use the pirated version, like me, though it is illegal. But for the reason of more vulnerability,I also forced to format the system very often.I am not able to obtain the latest updates from the Microsoft. As don't have experience with windows xp home edition, I am not able to install it though I have the license for home edition. Now I have decided to install this OS when I am about to format the system in the next time. I feel working with the home edition will not be a harder thing.I tired for formatting the system very ofter because of the virus, though I have the licensed anti virus software. If the cost of the OS is less, then it is sure no one will run after the pirated versions. Thanks for your response to this discussion.

But I am not interested to work with the windows vista as we need to respond to various pop ups while working. This is highly irritating me while working and hence I uninstalled the vista and reinstalled the windows xp profession. I think the home edition will also look similar to the xp professional to work with.If so, I will install the windows xp home edition very soon at least to update the system from Microsoft.Because of the vulnerabilities, I used to format the system very ofter and I tired too much in this.Every day they are releasing the various updates. But not able to update because of pirated version. Though I wished to install the windows 7, I don't like to continue with the pirated version after certain time as the cost of windows 7 costs more than the cost of windows xp professional edition. But from the feedback of the others who are using windows 7, I came to know this also not good enough and it is like vista only. But I don't have any experience with the windows 7 yet.I am about to buy one more laptop and I may be able to work with windows 7 as now all of the laptops are preinstalled with this operating system only. For my issue, now I have decided to install the windows xp home edition while formatting the system next time.I am not able to get the updates to the pirated version.Even if we are able to get, some of the desk top settings are made to change my the Microsoft, by removing some dll files from our system. Thanks for your response to this discussion.
