What is the best way to wash large things like blankets and curtains?

I know curtains often don't survive in the washing machine and blankets wreak havoc on the bearings! So what is the best way to wash blankets and curtains and other large things? I've really only thought of hanging them, spraying with detergent and hosing them. Has anyone got any better ideas? Help! I've got a whole houseload of curtains to do!

I would just hope for the best and put them in the washer. They have a really big washer I see at the wash house. I wash my shower curtain in my home washer. Nothing ever happened to it. I would check the wash house for that super sized washer and use that. Good luck

Hopefully they are starting to make more washer friendly curtains. Because it's a rental house I really don't want to damage them but if they were mine I probably would try my luck and just keep they washer friendly ones!! Yea the large laundry tubs at the wash house are a good idea for the blankets. Thank you!
