If you cook for your family, do you plan your meals for the entire week, ahead of time or do you do it on a daily basis? Which do you think would be easier for you or more time saving?

Hi, artistry. I usually will cook for my family on a weekly basis. So, I would think ahead of time of what I wanted to cook for them. I plan weekly. It is very easy to do this. I don't have to cook everyday, because whatever I cook lasts for almost the entire week. Which for me is less time consuming. I cook at least twice a week for my family.

...Hi cream97, Thanks so much for your comment. I asked the question because I used to work with a friend of mine, who had about four children. She would take the weekend and cook for the entire week and freeze everything, thawing out each day. I thought that was so smart, because it saved her all that time doing the week when she came home from working. You are using almost the same concept, which saves you loads of time during the week. Good for you. Take care.

For the most part we do not plan ahead. I try to plan one special meal a week. I usually cook something for Wednesday night, as we tend to have our game night on Wednesdays in my family.

No I do not plan the family meals I just decide that day what I am going to cook for dinner. I have no problem by just planning the meal the day I am going to cook it.

...Hi happy, The thing of it is, whatever works for you and your family that is what you will be doing. What you said is probably what 80% of the people do on a daily basis and it perfectly alright. The only meal planning I usually do is my grocery list. I do try to save money by searching for sales when I can. Take it easy, thanks so much for your comment.

I plan usually for a week to two weeks. This helps to plan to make extra to have left overs on a night that we will have a very busy schedule. Making and planning meals ahead of time help with budgeting and saving money too. We have a very large family so every penny we save helps with the food budget.

...Hi there good2go2001, If sounds to me from what you are saying that you have things under control. It makes sense to do the things that help your family save money whenever you can. I don't use a lot of coupons but I search for sale items to save money, and I also try to buy larger items so they last longer. Whatever you can do, as you say to save money would be the thing to do. Thanks so much for your comment. Happy holidays and Happy New Year to you.

I'm a weekly too..2 weeks at a time if I get lucky, I plan pretty much based on what is on sale at the store for the week. If I can stock up on something that can be used several ways, I do. For me having a plan is like one less thing I have to do during the day. I know when my day starts what I am making for dinner and can plan accordingly. when the unexpected happens to throw me off track, I don't have to waste energy on still having to come up with something for dinner, that is already done.

...Hi there jewels49, This method helps you with budgeting and in the long run you will save money. The other things you mentioned are the benefits you reap from your planning. I admire people who do what you are doing, and I am sure you love the time you are also saving. Take good care and thanks for sharing. Happy New Year.

hi artistry I plan a daily meal, as it is good for health. as per the current helath rate, all are suffering with or other problem. frankly to say just 'coz of food habits. making food at once keeping in refrigirator, heating up in microoven and having it. I always serve my people a healthy, fresh food. even for the working people also it's not a big deal to go for a daily food plan. I wish everyone should go for a healthy life style, as of all health is the first one what we have to save then automatically everything including environtment also gets saved.

..Hi vedhak, Welcome to the ranch, enjoy, it's such a fun place. It is great to hear that you believe in serving your people fresh foods which is the best thing you can do relative to food. It would be great if more people would try a healthier life style, but every one is rushing here and rushing there, not taking the time to be good to themselves. Do have a Happy New Year. Thanks for your comment.
