Christmas used to be a pagan holiday. The tree, the ornaments. I remember reading that the big ball ornaments were used to be hung to reflect evil away. I don't remember exactly what the tree meant but I know it was important. What did the tree mean again? For Christians/Religious people, Christmas is said to be the day Jesus was born. Christians are said to celebrate the day Mary gave birth to the little baby Jesus in the manger. HOWEVER most people know that Jesus wasn't on that day, which stirs up a lot of controversy on why Christians "really" celebrate Christmas or what we are celebrating? NOWADAYS, everyone is getting on Christmas. Whether they are religious or not. They might say they are NOT or DONT celebrate Christmas but putting up a tree and lights mean you are actually celebrating believe me or not. Celebrating means participating. Same with Halloween. People say they don't celebrate, yet they go out to trick-or-treat. Most people celebrate Christmas for the presents and shopping. Some people celebrate for the family bond. Some people also celebrate Christmas just for the feeling of happiness. Some people celebrate just because it falls under winter and they want to see the snowy day. So what is the real and true meaning of Christmas? What are we really celebrating?

..christmas was once a pagan holiday.. but at present, most of us have been Christianize already and the celebration of Christmas commemorates the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.. Actually, we not celebrating His birthday.. we are just remembering that Jesus was born here on earth and become our Savior.. no one knows when Jesus was really born but it doesn't actually matter when He was born.. what matters most is the expression of our thankfulness because He was born.. That's the real essence of Christmas for me.. If we look around, there are those people who really takes advantage of Christmas season.. if you ask them why they are celebrating, they would just simply say that because its the birthday of Jesus.. but they don't know the real essence of Christmas.. For me, the church has an important role in instilling the real essence of Christmas to all people.. and parents have to teach their children what Christmas really means.. In the end, children will become adults soon and they will be the one to enlighten also their fellows..

I couldnt agree more. I feel like a lot of the younger people have lost the meaning of Christmas. They just care about the shopping and the hanging out and the fun. Thanks for the response! =]
