So which movie do you prefer? I personally prefer Avatar simply because its something different and exciting! =] But I still like Iron Man. How about you?

That's a hard one for me. When I first learned that Don Cheadle (who is a wonderful actor that I respect tremendously) would be replacing Terrence Howard, and how the studio handled informing Howard of this, I decided not to watch Iron Man 2. So can't decide between those two choices. I have seen Avatar. I thought it was a good film. It was visually stunning, but I didn't feel it was different per say. Tom Avatar was like a live action FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992), but with aliens and no need to make an evil entity separate from the humans destroying the land for profit. Also, I felt that the prescription was common. Outsider, member of the oppressive group lives among the oppressed (either because he was abandoned, was there to infiltrate or chose to), falls in love with a member of the oppressed and/or the ways of the people, and then saves them, and becomes one of them. I think what would have made things "different" for me, is if the aliens looked drastically different from humans, and even severely ugly by our standards and the outsider still fell in love with a member or their ways. It might be different for me if the outsider developed a deep platonic friendship and decided to fight beside their friend. It might have also been different if the outsider joined the aliens from the beginning to fight against the destruction of their land and way of life, or if the aliens simply fought back on their own beating the invaders with no outsider serving as an spiritually ordained savior. Now a lot of folks might read that and think it impossible for me to have really liked the film, this is just not true. I'm a critical viewer, and I think that you can still like something and at the same time acknowledge its flaws.
